Betorehand, complaints about the cost ot the din- ner and the prolonged wait tor rings threatened this traditional event. However, seniors vetoed a propos- al that rings be distributed unceremoniously the tirst week ot school. The ring dinner was saved. On the night ot the dinner. most ot the class eager- ly arrived, in ties and heels, to receive their senior status symbols. It was Up, Up and Away With the Class ot '7I, as the traditional proceedings began. Esther Costel, vice-president ot the class, intro- duced Father Thomas Moore. Although mercitully short, his address ottered usetul advice to seniors. Mixed Chorus members led the class in singing The Impossible Dream and a revised version ot Up, Up and Away. Atterwards, everyone impa- tiently devoured their meals. Finally, the long-awaited moment arrived. Presi- dent Ricky Bryant signalled tor rings to be pulled. Ribbons suddenly tlew trom red, white, and blue bal- loons. Seniors, some ioytully, others teartully began their year-long flight toward graduation. Country Hero, Mooky, Suvesllll Dir+y Work af lhe Crossroads, presenled in No- vember as The senior play, provided enlerlainmenl for Jrhe enrire school. This melodrama consisred of eigh'r casf players, as well as dancers and panromim- ers performing belween acls. Munro Murgalroyd lS+eve-Currensl plolled villain- ous schemes in hopes of winning rhe love of Nellie Lovelace lHolly Hannal and lhus gaining a lorlune ol money. His schemes were inferrupled, however, by lda lDiane Hancockl, his wife, who invariably showed up al The mosr inopporrune limes. Mooky lRober'r Perkinsl, a simple farm hand, kepl Jrhe audience in an uproar as he found himself involved in lhe awkward si'rua+ions creafed by Munro. Grace Fragstein. They had various projects including selling Latay- ette car-stickers, Go Generals buttons, and run- ning the concession stand at basketball and tootball games. Also, the Pep Club contributed to the spirit at sports events'by decorating the goal posts at tootball games and making signs tor basketball games. lvlem- bers made posters and hung them in the boy's locker room. Otticers helped lead cheers and participated in skits at pep rallies. At State Tournament X1 Winning the cheerleading trophy at the State Tournament was the highlight ot the season tor the Varsity Cheerleaders. They re- ceived tour superior ribbons and were nominated tor the highest award presented, the Coca-Cola Award. Individually in the meet, Steve Wilson placed sev- enth in the 200 yard medley. Paul Elswick placed ninth in the IOO yard buttertly. Competing in the ZOO yard medley relay, Steve Wilson, Bob Goodykoontz, Paul Elswick and Paul Walker tinished ninth. ln dual meet competition, the boys ended with one win and three losses. Their only victory came against cross-town rival Henry Clay. For the Girls' Swim Team, Libby Wade competed in the State Diving Competition, but did not place.
