One student said in a local newspaper article teaturing the class. lt's the class l go to school tor. Next year twice as many students will be assigned to Humanities. Miss Harrison used as a guide tor teaching the course the principle, there is a need tor students to see a relationship among the humanities, music, art, literature, and philosophy and to see that they all have certain basic characteristics in common. During the year they studied the periods ot Classicism, Romanticism, and Realism. They related Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to the modern day West Side Story as well as linking the music and art work with their readings. The class attended several plays including The Man ot La Mancha , Mame , Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead , Fiddler on the Root , and Come Blow Your Horn . They also saw the opera Carmen as presented by the Central Kentucky Concert Series. Music and art were included in their study ot all literary works. During the tear an extensive study ot music was taught by Mr. Anderson, the band director. Their studies consisted ot a lecture-discussion type class including the study ot philosophies trom the Stone Age to Modern Man. Most classes included group reports on U. S. Government Departments. Mr. Kay's students used visual aids ot charts, displays and graphs to create interest tor the class. ln connection with the De- partment ot Detense two Air Force recruiters and an Army Recruiter spoke to these students. The boys tour-hundred meter relay team ot senior Tom l-land, juniors Chip Parker and Charlie Wade, and treshman Steve Wilson won the state championship, and Cheryl Richards was victorious in the girls one-hundred meter treestyle.
