SPIRIT OF ,67 TAKES OVER For any student, the dream of becoming a senior achieves reality at the Ring Dinner. When senior rings are pulled from their places, stu- dents receive their only tan- gible proof of seniority. It is the first time seniors are to- gether as a group and every- one laughs over the things they did as sophomores and juniors. Weeks before the dinner, rumors that the rings would never arrive were rampant. Everyone groaned over the prospect of cold, raw chicken. Speakers were discussed in terms of corny jokes and time limits. Happily, the seniors learned the rings had arrived, there would be turkey instead of chicken and best of all, there would be no speaker. To fit in with the revo- lutionary theme, The Spirit of '67, the Phoenix was decorated in red, white, and blue. Each table centerpiece was a drum which contained the rings. While everyone stared at the drums and tension mounted, Mrs. Wake led the seniors in folk singing. Finally Class President Bill McCaw rose and gave the signal amid squeals of laughter. The senior's status symbols had arrived. Q .7 N--...K , is , 1, , mm 1' -' 7 v r, r , r 4. .V V up kk . . . I ,,fmegR 'f,t.,',,, cts! K- ii. gy.
