Drivers Education Promotes Better Driving . Mr. Lucien Hebert .. xv, 'k--e K ':.g.r ., hw A to 'mf' I t s ' J xro-Me Mr. Hebert shows a student how to park correctly. The main goal of Driver's Education is to train students to be safe, competent drivers. During the first six weeks of school, the students are acquainted with the principles of good driving through their class work in which the operation of the engine and defensive driving are stressed. When the class work is completed, each student has two weeks of actual driving under the competent supervision of Mr. Lucien Hebert. When the student completes this phase of the course, he is well equipped to face the many driving situations which he will encounter throughout life. Mr. Hebert stresses the importance of safety belts. Students receive last-minute instructions before getting into the car.

A Language Created by Music The beginners in band practice after school. The music department, consisting of the band, the orchestra, and the cho- rus, is doing an outstanding job here at Lafayette High. The band' has won festival sweepstakes for the past eleven years, and the orchestra has won sweepstakes for four years. Both of these groups are under the skillful direction of Mr. Harry Greig. The chorus is a fast-developing asset to Lafayette High. Mrs. Bienvenu is the director of the freshman, gir1's, boy's and advanced cho- ruses. She also teaches music theory classes. Art Yields an Outlet for Self-expression . Mr. Claude Guidroz ,, The study of art gives many students an opportunity for self-expression. In art students learn how to work with clay, oil paints, tempera, and papier-mache. Many art students are called upon to design and build the props and sets for school productions. With Mr. Claude Guidroz at the head of the department, it is no wonder that the Lafayette High Art Department is one of the best anywhere.
