Because of the great emphasis on physical fitness which is placed upon the youth of America, the Girl's P.E. department has ac- quired excellent standards. The variety of activ- ities undertaken brings the department closer to its goal: to give each girl the opportunity to obtain physical fitness. Included in its program are courses in team sports, rhythmics, gymnastics, and track. Also, it offers a four-year course in health. 1 s 24 Enjoying a dancing class.

For a person to acquire a job in the business world today, he must have first mastered the essential skills: typing, bookkeeping, and shorthand. To enter into a specialized field, a knowledge of accounting, business law, clerical practice, or general business is necessary. All of these courses are offered at Lafayette High. After receiving this training, the graduate is adequately pre- pared to face the business world. H Bulletin boards inspire students to work harder. 23

A Language Created by Music The beginners in band practice after school. The music department, consisting of the band, the orchestra, and the cho- rus, is doing an outstanding job here at Lafayette High. The band' has won festival sweepstakes for the past eleven years, and the orchestra has won sweepstakes for four years. Both of these groups are under the skillful direction of Mr. Harry Greig. The chorus is a fast-developing asset to Lafayette High. Mrs. Bienvenu is the director of the freshman, gir1's, boy's and advanced cho- ruses. She also teaches music theory classes. The chorus members discuss the list of songs for a program. Mr. Harry Greig Mrs. Doris Bienvenu Mrs. Bienvenu introduces a new stu dent teacher. 25
