NS Mrs. Burleigh points out the posters corresponding to the French monologue. gi .er- - Y , Mr. Raymond Roy Mrs. Ruby Wortman As the world becomes figuratively smaller, a knowledge of foreign languages becomes more ,es- sential to the continuation of peace, harmony, and understanding among the different nations. The foreign language department at L.H.S. is concentrating more on the spoken rather than the grammatical languageg however, the correct sen- tence structure 'is mastered by all. Both the French and Spanish students in the past have produced plays for rally in their respective languages. The Latin stu- dents learn about the development of words, and they learn how to translate freely. In each of the language courses, pupils study about the Cultural and historical backgrounds of the people who orig- inated their language. 5 French class is often amusing. 2l

In the study of geography, students learn not only about the locations of different places, but also about the people who live there. Civics, which is required in the tenth grade, is the study of our government, and it also includes current affairs. Mrs. Genoa Carpenter The Home Economics department of Lafayette High offers excellent training to the homemakers of the future. The course is developed so that the students may learn the essentials-cooking, sewing, child care, good grooming, and etiquette. They also gain experience in household du- ties such as meal planning and preparation, buying, and budgeting. Three courses of regular home economics are offered. In addition, a fourth course in home and family living is made available to all seniors. If a person takes advantage of these excellent opportunities to become a well-rounded person, he is surely to get along better in the world.
