Miss Dorothy Blakely Chairman Mr. james Purslow Mr. james Carter M The idea that one may profit by knowledge of the mis- takes and successes of others, is indeed true. In the study of geography, students learn not only about the locations of different places, but also about the people who live there. Civics, which is required in the tenth grade, is the study of our government, and it also includes current affairs. Through the studies of world history and American, history, one learns about the actions of different people, and about the reasons which made them act as they did. - s R 15 sz. 1 K ' ll is fa., tt. as X X K. . kr , rs. Science Investigates the Wonders of the Universe . Mr. Antoine Hebert Mr. Steve Antoine Chairman Mr. Charles Bennett Mr. E. J. Concienne Mr. J. D. Concienne Mr. John Guilbeau Because science plays such an important part in our lives in this day and age, a knowledge of science is essential to the well-rounded, well- educated adult. Through the study of science, each student is given an opportunity to investi- gate the wonders of the universe. In general science he will learn the fundamentals and basic facts of many branches of science, in biology he will study the plant and animal kingdoms and the hiunan body. Chemistry includes the study of elements, chemicals, and compoundsg physics, the highest science offered at L.H.S., is the study of matter and motion. Both the biology and chemistry departments have excellent labora- tory facilities. Foreign Languages Bring Harmony Y l MIS- Ethel Burleigh Mrs. Louise Mumpower The students make excellent use of the foreign language laboratory. . .V .M - .. . . NS Mrs. Burleigh points out the posters corresponding to the French monologue. gi .er- - Y , Mr. Raymond Roy Mrs. Ruby Wortman As the world becomes figuratively smaller, a knowledge of foreign languages becomes more ,es- sential to the continuation of peace, harmony, and understanding among the different nations. The foreign language department at L.H.S. is concentrating more on the spoken rather than the grammatical languageg however, the correct sen- tence structure 'is mastered by all. Both the French and Spanish students in the past have produced plays for rally in their respective languages. The Latin stu- dents learn about the development of words, and they learn how to translate freely. In each of the language courses, pupils study about the Cultural and historical backgrounds of the people who orig- inated their language. 5 French class is often amusing. 2l
