BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK LAFAYETTE HIGH SCHOOL 2630 BENSON AVENUE BROOKLYN, NEW YORK 11214 LEO WEITZ, P1'iUCiP31 TELEPHONE: ESpIanade 2-3480 June l9oh Dear Graduates: On the twenty-fifth anniversary of our school, may I welcone you to the ever- growing ranks of Lafayette graduates and alumni. Since 1939 approximately twenty thousand students have received diplomas from us. Wherever you go you will find our young men and women distinguishing themselves in business, the professions, the arts, and in political and civic affairs. I hope that you, too, will in the years to come add to the lustre of Lafayette's name Dy your conduct and your deeds. The class of l96h is faced by a world quite different from that which con- fronted the first graduating class of our school. What with space travel, jet planes, automation and the rivalry between competing economic and poli- tical systems, you will witness changes and meet problems hitherto unknown to man. What concerns me most is how you will face these new developments. Will your hearts and minds possess the flexibility, the intelligence and the character to meet the challenges created by these changes, or will you D8 overcome, confused and frightened by them? Will you select from your experiences that which is good and enduring and reject that which is worth- less? we at Lafayette have tried to give you the kind of training and education that will help you face the future with courage and understanding. It is m hope that, as you move forward, you will not forget the ideals and values representative of the b6St in our school. May the future bring you much personal happine and great success! Co 'ally X Q fe LEO WEITZ Principal LW:mk P. S. when you open this book five years from now, please write me and let ne know how you are faring.
