Dear Graduates: Congratulations upon your success in completing your high school course of study with a satisfactory record in scholarship, behavior, and citizenship. You have merited graduation by your effort and achievement. In the process of winning a diploma you have also grown up in stature as a person with responsibility for the inheritance of the past and the new horizons for the future. In the declaration at graduation you solemnly promise to help make our school and our city better than you found them. What does the record show about the class of June 1962? You have estab- lished an outstanding record by winning many Regents Scholarships, National Merit Awards and numerous other honors. You produced a prize-winning SING and an outstanding dramatic production. In the field of sports you had a championship team in basketball and soccer. You were the first to play a basketball game on television. Among the various firsts which took place during your senior year, you were the first class to have a foreign language laboratory and the first to produce a foreign language television broadcast. Your diploma is the first to be granted by the new Board of Education of the City of New York. I hope you have many other ibemonal lirstr to make 1962 memorable in your life. You have learned many lessons, but most important are the worthwhile habits, attitudes, ideals, and aspirations that will govern your daily actions. We hope and pray that you will always show your loyalty to God and country, to your school and family. W'hether you go to a higher institution of learning, to a business school, or a job, you will represent all of us at Lafayette High School. We are proud of you! Live up to our great expectations for you. Sincerely yours, JOSEPH BELLAFIORE Principal 5

uizierd Dear Graduates: Congratulations upon your graduation! You have reached this landmark in an exciting year when our country has succeeded in sending its first manned spaceship around the earth. What a fortunate generation you are! You will see many more marvelous exploits within your lifetime, it will not be long before Man reaches the moon, and, perhaps within the span of your life, Man will establish contact with other planets. Yet whether he travels by oxeart or by jet, throughout the history of civilized man, his goals have remained the same. To realize to the full oneis potential, to find a congenial mate and fix one's roots within the family, to live in peace and friendship-these are the eternal goals, the realization of which we hope will come to each and every one of you. This scientific era has given us the added boon of leisure time in an era of plenty. We hope that your education at Lafayette will help you to use these gifts wisely-to find joy not only in the 'foutward trappingsi' of prosperity, but also in reading, in art, in music and in the cultivation of your own talents. Above all, we hope that your education here will guide you to help those of your fellow men less fortunate than yourselves and to live at peace with all mankind. Though in one sense, we are sorry to see you leave us, we are glad that you have achieved this important goal. May you all find happiness and may your lives be rewarding to you, your family, and your community, Sincerely yours, JOSEPH KASTER FLORENCE LEFKOWITZ ALICE ROTH A 7
