We are now faced with the privileges and responsibilities of being active American citizens and we are expected to play an integral part in shaping our nation's destiny. The world awaits that which we have to offer, for we are the leaders, the law makers of the future. The citizens before us, each in his own way, have created what we now call our American Heritage. This is not our past, but our present and future. It is the pride in being an American and our basic love of freedom. It is the desire to live in the spirit of brotherhood among all. It is the ability to act with an open heart toward all. The freedom and democratic spirit of choice that our forefathers fought for is ours to cherish and preserve. We realize, of course, the tremendous responsibilities that are ours, and it is only natural to wonder if we are prepared to meet them. Our parents and teachers have used the wealth of their education and experience to guide us. We have the high standards and traditions they have set before us. The heritage and guidance they have given us provides us with firm faith that we shall not let them down.
