l6'eysir1 Sports Overheard in Passing 'LHOW about that '52 football team! I was only a freshman, but I remember those games. It was the best team the P.S.A.L. ever saw. Why, all eleven starters made all-city in some way or otherf' HI disagree, it's the 1953 over all. '4What do you know? Youlre only a soccer fan! HWhom are you calling a soccer fan? L'Easy fellows. I think I'll solve the problem. The 1955 team had no peers. Led by captains Steve Pessin, Bill Appel, and Dennis Mackirz they won five games. True, they lost two games, but they played stiffer opposition. Steve, Bill, ferry Hershman and Rudy Pasterczyk made some form of all-city, and everybody re- spected ferry Weitzen, Walter Schneider and Sergio Campagnolo. 96 'Yr N- 96 95 'II think that Ralph Dreyer was the best player we had at Lafayette in the last four years. HI think it was jimmy Reisnerf' C'How could you say that? Look at Ralph,s record. He led the team in scoring for two years. He was all-city in 1955 and all-Brooklyn in 1954. Jimmy was all-city twice and is considered one of the most dangerous players in the P.S.A.L. Hey fellas, why fight? We all know that any soccer player who wears the Maroon and White is automatically a champion. Gus Baart, Noel Drago, Vie White, joel Goldberg. They're all tops. Mr. Yudell tums out soccer stars year after year, one after another, and all just as good as the restf' il- W if- -FE 9? I don't think anybody could match the 'Cinderellal team, our 1953-'54 basket- ball team. They won the division championship and upset Madison in an inter- divisional playoff. Then they went to Madison Square Garden and dropped highly- rated Erasmus. Qnly city-champion, Jefferson, could stop themf, And how about the 1955-'56 team! Paul Kaufman, Barry Epstein, Stuie Boxer, Steve Bernstein, Irv Lieber, and crew sure put up a good showf, ' NI would like to be around next year. Welll go all the way for suref' 'LIt's too bad that Coach Sheerin didn't remain around as baseball coach. He sure coached some good ones in his time? I remember that 1955 team. It sure is a tough break to lose the borough championship after winning 10 games in a row. HThey had some good players too. Bob Aspromonte, Ralph Gualario, and Sam zldunter played together like a real unitf' -56 'EG -55' 96- W Five boys were standing in a sullen group. One was wearing knickers and holding a putter. Another was in shorts and wearing a pair of leather gloves. The other three were respectively carrying a .22 single shot rifle, an oversized black ball, and a tennis racket. After they strolled away, I recognized foe Lentini of the golf team, Stuart Lieberman of the handball teamg Hank Kammerman, captain of the rifle team, star bowler, jerry Cohen and Dennis O'Keefe, captain of the tennis team.
