successful Sing. came the VARSITY SHOYV, 'lGrowing Pains. This, too, was an amusing comedy about the problems of a group of adolescents. School spirit was further revived when our Basketball Team emerged as Brooklyn Champs and won for itself the title of 'Cinderella Team. , This name was given our team because of its victories over favored Madison and Erasmus. Along with our successful Basketball Team was the continuation of the Football Team's winning streak. This prolonged the cry for-BLEACHERS IN THE FIELD! And now, for the last time, the familiar cry brings about a change of scenery. The mists swirl rapidly, gaining in speed, until at the height of their violence, they disperse all at once, and reveal a beautiful scene. The same faces appear, but this time, they themselves possess neither gaudy nor pale covering. They possess no coloring other than that of happy and proud individuals: proud because they have at last achieved the rank of Seniors. The background setting and the clothing of the students, however, do have color. These colors are the cherished and magnificent Maroon and VVhiteg a vivid and contrasting combination, which they, more than any other members of school society now have the right to call their own. And so, we relive the splendor of our Senior year, which is still fresh in our minds. And still in the same noble colors, we review the happenings of the past year. First. of course, we must mention that Mrs. Mary C. Graham became our new principal in the place of Dr. Oswald. The first dance of the season was the FALL HOP, which was a moderate success. The next big event was the second annual SING. Once again the same outstanding display of school spirit was shown as the Senior class went into the activities with a bang. The theme was HEAVEN AND HADES, which revolved around the idea of the Seniors having to chose their destination. They finally decided to go back to Lafayette, despite the fact that they would have to continue doing homework and not cutting classes. The script was written in record time, since this year we had much less time to prepare than the previous year. Then came the endless rehearsals, but when it was over, we were proud of our Sing and knew that we had done the best we could, whether or not we would win. Finally on the night of the third performance, the decision of the judges was announced-and we won! The Sing was a sellout and there wasn't a seat left in the house on any of the three nights it was presented. We were really sorry to have the Sing with all its excitement and anticipation pass on. But all good things must come to an end. The next show put on was the VARSITY SHOW, which was called Stage Door, a story about a group of aspiring young actresses in New York. This, too, was a sellout. Another of the year's gala events was the CONCERT, which went over quite well. This year, the Soccer Team emerged as Brooklyn-Manhattan champs and won the PSAL Trophy for the school. Unfortunately, we must reveal that this year, the football team was no longer victorious. Naturally, this saddened us, but not as defeat saddens some. For no team or person can go on winning forever, and no matter when our team would have lost, there would always have been a Senior class. To prove that the Lafayette Seniors of ,55 were proud of their great football team and would always cheer them on, and with the belief that in coming years they would regain their championship, the cry was raised louder than ever for- BLEACHERS IN THE FIELD! Once more, at the sound of these words, the vision of our first year fades, The green color slowly and finally fades into-nothing! Colorless faces, books, desks, rooms! Pallid Sophomores! Here we are but one year older, and yet so much more experienced. The school was just one big social whirl, first the WIN- TER CARNIVAL and then the first TRI- SCHOOL DANCE. Pupils from New Utrecht, Lincoln and Lafayette gathered in the Lincoln gymnasium. Once more the future Bernhardts and Barrymores of Lafayette presented the VARSITY SHOW, a delightful comedy called c'Act Your Age. This year heralded another victorious football team and the cry was again sBLEACHERS IN THE FIELD! Again the smoky mists swirl round and round and this scene, too, fades until the next scene we see, consisting of the same books, faces, desks, rooms, and atmosphere, have a faint maroon tint. This time, together with the whiteness of the rest of the picture, provides a hint of things to come. These creatures show definite signs of taking on the gallant colors of Maroon and White. And so, with great expec- tation, we review this year as Juniors. This was a year of significant events. Lafayette cele- brated its FIFTEENTH ANNIVERSARY and this was an omen of good luck. However, in this year we did suffer a loss. Dr. Frederick Oswald retired as principal of Lafayette High School, a position which he had held since the school was opened in l9f39fl5 years ago. For the first time in our history, Lafayette organ- izcd I, SING, This created a school spirit and vmhugigsiii never before experienced. Students who hgd never before taken part in any school Ildivity now joined in the excitement of the preparation for this big event. The Juniors had th.
