' ' iar saying brings back memories of four won- derful years just gone by and in order to examine more closely these years, we call upon the Genie of the Lamp. For with the Genie and his Lamp of the Centuries at our command, we cannot only go back into the past, but through the wonders of this magical instru- ment, we can have the past appear right be- fore our eyes. And so we give the Genie our permission to proceed and as he rubs the lamp, XVI' SVU' N Green faces, green books, green desks, green rooms! Freshmen! We hold no contempt for we realize this thing we now see before us was ourselves, four short, yet long, long years ago. During our sentence as Freshmen, we have ac- complished and witnessed some strange and wonderful things. Among our many wanderings through the halls of Lafayette, we found to our amaze- ment no pool, no escalators, no fifth floor, etc. Unfortunately, we had already spent four weeks' allowance on pool tickets, elevator and escalator passes, gym spots, locker combinations, and various other items. But with us came good fortune, for extra-curricular activities com- menced, but this did not stop the rush to Sykenfs bus at the end of the eighth period. However, there were some ambitious students who did remain for the various clubs. Membership ranged from one to three loyal Freshmen per organization. In one room only could be heard buzzing activity and that was Room 248, the Math Help Class. Surprisingly enough, there was a large attendance at the VARSITY , . ' ' Q . . ,Q-, A-1: ...-.. ,. , SHOW. called 'iCuckoos on the Hearth, which was a mystery. This year was also marked by the ball team, who Because of our .pired with the splendid playing of our foot- reigned as CITY CHANIPS. victorious team, we were in- thought of BLEACHERS IN

Once more, at the sound of these words, the vision of our first year fades, The green color slowly and finally fades into-nothing! Colorless faces, books, desks, rooms! Pallid Sophomores! Here we are but one year older, and yet so much more experienced. The school was just one big social whirl, first the WIN- TER CARNIVAL and then the first TRI- SCHOOL DANCE. Pupils from New Utrecht, Lincoln and Lafayette gathered in the Lincoln gymnasium. Once more the future Bernhardts and Barrymores of Lafayette presented the VARSITY SHOW, a delightful comedy called c'Act Your Age. This year heralded another victorious football team and the cry was again sBLEACHERS IN THE FIELD! Again the smoky mists swirl round and round and this scene, too, fades until the next scene we see, consisting of the same books, faces, desks, rooms, and atmosphere, have a faint maroon tint. This time, together with the whiteness of the rest of the picture, provides a hint of things to come. These creatures show definite signs of taking on the gallant colors of Maroon and White. And so, with great expec- tation, we review this year as Juniors. This was a year of significant events. Lafayette cele- brated its FIFTEENTH ANNIVERSARY and this was an omen of good luck. However, in this year we did suffer a loss. Dr. Frederick Oswald retired as principal of Lafayette High School, a position which he had held since the school was opened in l9f39fl5 years ago. For the first time in our history, Lafayette organ- izcd I, SING, This created a school spirit and vmhugigsiii never before experienced. Students who hgd never before taken part in any school Ildivity now joined in the excitement of the preparation for this big event. The Juniors had th.
