What Zfrive Glo y 1920 As the 1920's unfolded, the Charleston was the dancing rage and prohibi- tion was at its peak. It was during this time that many of the sport world's figures gained their acclaim. One of the roughest and most colorful sports in this spectacular era was foot- ball. When the great teams of this period met on the gridiron, the sight of blood and broken bones was familiar. The most outstanding team of this age was the great Notre Dame team. From this rough and turbulent sport arose such great stars as John Levi of Haskell College and H. Hardwick, great end for Harvard. 1953 Moving now into our generation, we find football has become a carefully played game. In high school competition there have been many great teams, but none of which in our opinion can surpass the great Lafayette football team of 1951-52. Some of the players who have made Lafayette such a great team for the past two seasons are AL GOLDSTEIN, LOWELL CHERESKIN, NICK DE CICCO, SAM DE LUCA and ROLAND HOBBS. 1920. Probably the best liked and most exciting sport of this era was baseball, which produced such great teams as the New York Yankees and the New York Giants which brought into focus such immortal stars as Rogers Hornsby, Connie Mack, and the greatest star that sport has ever known, 'LBabe', Ruth. 1953 Lafayette can also boast of a great baseball team, consisting of such popular players as JERRY BOXER, STAN FISHEL, SAL LA MURA and JACK GIORDANO. 1920 Basketball, not too prevalent during the 2O's, has climbed steadily and gained popularity until it is now one of the major sports. During this period Nat Holman of C.C.N.Y. and Claire Bee of L.I.U. drew public attention to basketball. 1953 Lafayette, having a young, but promising team, has developed some of the future greats of basketball. The most notable player is capable SANDY KOUFAX, who has been scouted and will most likely be a future professional basketball player. Credit should also be given to BURT ABRAMOWITZ, FREDDY HORWITZ, JAY LICHTMAN, HESHY RUSSEL, and MARTY LICHTERMAN. 1920 Another sport, not famous in America during the 19203, but very popular in Europe where it could be compared to our national pastime, baseball, and also well known in Lafayette is Soccer. 1953 Our soccer team has won more championships than any other team in the city. This past season they copped the 'CBrooklyn-Manhattann championship. One of the most important factors in their campaign was the outstanding playing of JOHN LO MONACO, JOHN VENTIMIGLIA and DONALD SPECTOR, As the great teams and players of the 1920's went down in the history of the United States, the stars of Lafayette's great teams will go down in the History of Lafayette.
