jim Moi ecard Quit ilfed If we were to turn back the clock to our earliest days at Lafayette, how much do you think you could remember? Let us refresh our memories by following the footsteps of joe and Jill as they enter the classroom of their favorite teacher, lNIr. H. S. LaFayette. c'During your high school years, life must have been simply thrilling! il It certainly was! X'Vith the coming of radio, domestic relations were strained. Each radio was equipped with only one set of earphones and quarrels ensued over their use.', l'That sounds familiar, doesn't it, Jill? 'LYou bet! Wlith television in our house, there's no peace. My brother is a loyal cowboy addict, my father,s a sports enthusiast and mother and I just want quiet, relaxing entertainmentf' Tl Young lady, you're going ahead of mel When I entered High School joe, remember our freshman year? After forfeiting part of our much needed allowance to some enterprising senior we discovered that the swimming pool and escalator were merely a Legend. The concert featuring music from South Pacific rnade us realize that there was more to school than just books. During that year Lafayette played host to the Tri-School Dance and the Twirlers were inaugurated. Mjill, remember the two days we spent at City Hall, hghting for an increase in the teachers salary?,' 1l But all your protests went for naught, interrupted Mr. LaFayette. We didn't get a raise and your extra-curricular activities were suspended. 'lLet's get back to my high school days. I remember the anti-prohibition demonstrations throughout the country, during my sophomore year. 'iOur sophomore year also had its protests. With the G.O., the Legend, the Student Court and Speakers' Bureau the only organizations active, we made tremendous efforts to get back our extra-curricular activitiesf' l'Our Hrst two Regents exams were in that year too, Joe, I recall giving up dates in order to study for those dreaded tests. Looking back on it now, Jill, it wasnlt so bad after all.', fl 6'Back in 1924, when I was a junior, the American people returned Calvin Coolidge to the White House andm- HOur junior year culminated with the election of Eddie Strasser and Artie Fourteen

Physical Education is enjoyable for boys when Mr. Yudell is the teacher. An alumnus of the Savage School of Physical Educa- tion and N.Y.U., Mr. Yudell taught in New Utrecht before com- ing to Lafayette fourteen years ago. He coaches the soccer team and enjoys such sports as golf and tennis. His pet peeve is boys who try to get away with things. He thinks all boys should be treated alike. His advice to the seniors is that they should be prepared for an entirely different set up when they leave high school. Life isn't as easy in the outside world as it was in Lafayette. MRS. WINCHESTER One of the many teachers in Lafayette High School who gr Q. ...,.,. ,ff ir,,...,e' L 1 42-fiis MR. YUDELL Mrs. Winchester, one of Lafayette,s health education instruc- tors, is an alumnus of Erasmus Hall High School and NSY'.U., a member of Mr. Eustis' art class for teachers for five yearsg her most important hobby is oil painting. She plans to travel through- out the Unted States, continue painting, and hopes some day to see California and the West. Her advice to the students is, If a job is worth doing, it's worth doing well. really enjoy his classes is Mr. Zuckerman. He has attended City College and Columbia University. Mr. Zuckerman loves teaching mathematics, which he thinks is the easiest subject in the high school curriculum. His hobbies include swimming and ice skating. He hopes that all his wishes come true. He advises the seniors not to blame any one person for the tough breaks in life. , Each grad- uate is the master of his fate and the c his souls, concluded Mr. Zuckerman. ZUCKERMAN Mrs. Brennen, home economics teacher in Lafayette High School for thirteen years, was born and brought up in Manhattan- She received her B.A. and M.A. degrees at Hunter College and Columbia, respectively. Mrs. Brennen furthered her education by taking special courses at Pratt Institute and N.Y.U. She enjoys her job of teaching nutrition and cooking, because of the pleasure she derives from being with young people. Mrs. Brennen advises the seniors: Happiness comes from efficient action? Fisher to the offices of president and vice president of the G.O. At the Hrst meet- ing of the term, the council votcd to build bleachers and on the basis of their achievements Eddie and Artie were re-elected. The student body voted to separate the offices of vice president and the Chief Justice of the Student Court. Hjill, that reminds me of our Senior class watching Lafayette's football team rip through the league and finally clinch the P.S.A.L. Championship? Ujoe, didn't Coach Cstro receive recognition as Coach of the Year? '5That,s right Jill, and don't forget our Soccer team. The Yudellmen crashed through the division to cop the Brooklyn title for the eleventh timefl g'Our football team romped through the season, Jill and the championship just slipped through our fingers. Joe, do you remember the wonderful time we had at the Spring Dance? How about the night we went to the Varsity Show! What was the name of it . . . Birdies on the Fireplace?U No Joe, it was Cuckoos on the Hearth and I was rolling in the aisles all through the performance. TluProsperity boomed as I entered my Senior year and Florida reached its peak as a winter resort. Red Grange the Galloping Ghost, was plunging into football fame. With Ted Smoller, president, and Sheila josefsberg, veep, at the helm of the G.O., we started our 8th term. 'eHow proudly we displayed our Senior buttons at the Varsity Show, Act Your Age? Joe, I'll always remember those won- derful nights at the Prom and the Senior Show. The Boatride to Bear Mountain was unforgettablef, We elected Pete Liuzzo, Neal Cohen and Renee Stein to head our Senior Coun- eil, and they promised us the time of our lives. MAnd on Graduation day, thought Joe and Jill, when we reluctantly said good- bye to all our wonderful friends, a tear came to our hearts as we remembered four fun-packed years at Lafayette.
