When The absence sheeT Tails To carry The CuTTer's name, The Teacher braces himselT and prepares Tor The ordeal oT lisTening To The excuses. The CuTTer wearily explains by Telling ThaT he ThoughT iT was The TiTTh period and he did noT know ThaT iT really was The sixTh-and he wenT To assembly because he ThoughT iT was Thurs- day and when he Tound ouT iT was Wednesday he sTarTed Tor The gym buT someone said iT was sTill The TourTh period, so he waiTed unTil The period ended beTore he Tound ouT ThaT iT really was The sixTh- on and on-ad inTiniTum. l-le would never cuT a class iT he had really known iT was The sixTh and iT- AT This iuncTure, The Teacher gives up in despair, sTops him, and gasps, Are you in love? Kid Genius English 95, Economics IOO, French 98, German 95, ChemisTry IOO. So goes The dream oT every Senior-buT Tew aTTain such resulTs- among The Tew is our Kid Genius. As he walks Through The halls, one can noT disTinguish him Trom his oTher hundred and TiTTy companions. NoThing abouT his appearance reveals ThaT here is anoTher John Kieran or a candidaTe Tor The Quiz Kids' program. l-lis appearance is ThaT oT an average youTh. ln The classroom, The disTincTion is obvious. l-le knows all The answers. l-le quoTes sTaTisTics, glibly asTonishes his Tellow sTudenTs and Teacher. His vocabulary is prodigious: his range of inTeresTs excepTionally wide. ReTer To an evenT in hisTory-he supplies all The missing inTor- maTion. LeT a maThemaTics problem sTump you-he will deduce The answer. QuesTion him on The baseball record oT a TavoriTe player or on The aTomic Theory, and he will never disappoinT you. OT such sTuTT is our Kid Genius-is he only a dream? Oscar, The Grouch When The school wishes To sTarT a TooTball Team and The sTudenTs are asked To donaTe money, who is The TirsT To complain? Oscar. When The school newspaper is TirsT published, who is The one ThaT sends in mosT oT The complainTs? Oscar. Sharpy Some LaTayeTTe sTudenTs are baseball enThusiasTs, TooTball lovers. and lady killers-buT This young genTleman's only inTeresT is his per- sonal aTTire. The ouTTiTs he wears To school are indeed very colorTul. l-le wears a iaunTy liTTle pancake haT, more commonly known as a porkpie. l-lis blue corduroy iackeT lknee-lengTh, oT coursel only exaggeraTes The color oT his eyes, and calls aTTenTion To The TiTTeen- inch peg on his Trousers. lMosT sTudenTs oTTen wonder how he geTs inTo Those scanTy-cuTTed panTsg science is probably Taking care oT ThaT by The zipper in each cuTTlll l-lis brown suede shoes and loud-sTriped socks compleTe The picTure oT The Typical Sharpy. AlThough he is raTher Tall, he impresses you as being oT medium heighT. IT seems To be characTerisTic oT mosT Sharpies To sTand wiTh Their knees slighTly benT Torward. No one really knows The reason Tor This unaTTracTive posTure, buT iT is supposed To make The parTicular young man look sharper -and This really counTs. When speaking To Seniors abouT This lad, The girls reTer To him as Tall, dark and handsome g The masculine epiTheT Tor him is slighTly diTTerenT-- Tall, dark and gruesome. Can This be envy? We wonder! Borrower There he siTs, waiTing paTienTly Tor you, his vicTim. When you arrive, his serenade sTarTs. The TirsT cry is, Give me a pen. ATTer he succeeds in procuring one, he discovers ThaT iT is wiThouT ink. SoliciTing ink Trom all The sTudenTs in his viciniTy, he siTs down prepared To wriTe, buT Tinds he has no paper. A believer in The old adage. WhaT's yours is mine, he cheerTully pokes you in The ribs wiTh a requesT Tor paper. ln order To gain some peace so as To be able To Tollow The lesson. you give him a sheeT oT paper. Silence prevails Tor a while unTil The noTes are compleTed. When he sTarTs geTTing bored, iT becomes dangerous again Tor The Tellow sTudenTs siTTing nexT To him. l-le realizes ThaT he hasn'T eaTen since breakTasT. Then begins a new cry, which is immediaTely recognized as The hunger plea, Who has a nickel Tor a sTarving Triend? When everyone reTuses, he Teels very hurT and subsides in silence nursing his oTTended pride. BuT since he isn'T The Type To remain angry aT his Tellow school- maTes, he enTers The classroom The nexT day and sTarTs The same old rouTine oT borrowing all over again. Who is The only one in The class who hasn'T joined The G. O.? Oscar. Luckily Tor us, we have very Tew Oscars in LaTayeTTe. This Type is noT The mosT beloved among our Seniors. Miss Sunshine Every school and every class is usually blessed wiTh one Miss Sunshine. She is The girl who is always consoling her Triends and Telling Them ThaT They passed Their TesTs or will receive good marks on Their reporT card. She is The one who always smiles beTore RegenTs and sTill smiles aTTer Them. MosT oT The Time Miss Sunshine is inTelligenT and clever. She always Tries To explain To oThers ThaT They are brighT when They know Themselves iT is noT alTogeTher True. WiTh her ready smile, and quick sense oT humor, she brings happi- ness To everyone wiTh whom she comes in conTacT. She never laughs aT anyone, buT always laughs wiTh everyone. T-ler sudden ouTbursTs in class make lively The dullesT lessons. AlThough many of her Teachers dislike These ouTbursTs, They are blessings To The sTudenTs. When she walks inTo a classroom The sTudenTs all gaTher around her, unTil The Teacher musT call The class To order. She has an enchanTing smile, and never shirks The opporTuniTy To use iT. She is one oT The more TorTunaTe people whose sole purpose on earTh is To make oThers happy. The GreaT Lover g ConTrary To all popular belieTs, The greaTesT lover The world has ever seen is righT here in LaTayeTTe. There were a Tew good amaTeurs in The arT oT love in days gone by: Romeo, Cyrano, Casanova, Barrymore.
