The need for education has perhaps never been more in evidence than it is today, with the pitting of minds against minds in the inter- national struggle for leadership in industry, as well as in science. In its first year as a four -year high school, Lafayette has welcomed its share of the educational load in St. Louis County. The administrators, coun- selors, and teachers have diligently attempted to prepare the LHS students to take their places in a world community. Whether a student plans to be an exe Q3 ' 9552: - Y! .. ..-S ...,. DEDICATION When one is a freshman, graduation from high school may seem to be somewhere in the far distant future, and yet, when the cherished date arrives and one looks back on the preceding four years, it does not seem so long a time after all. To some, graduation may signify the happy end of an era of hard work. Others will see graduation not as an end at all, but as a beginning---a time when they will take that first cautious step out into the outside world and be- gin their careers or continue their quest for knowledge at an institution of higher learning. Yet though it may be a happy time, graduation can sometimes bring tears to the eyes of even the most masculine boy: for this will be the last time he will see many of his high school friends. He will remember all the ballgames the dances, and even the time he had to go to the principal's office because he pulled little Susie's ponytail in his freshman civics class---all things of the past. ' One of the purposes of a yearbook is to serve as a pictorial memory book of the school year. It is with this in mind that we, the Lancer's Legend staff of 1963, dedicate this yearbook to the first graduating class of Lafayette High School, the 1963 seniors.
