Science Club The Lafayette High School Science Club was formed this year to increase interest in the field of science and to provide an outlet for the scientific interests of the students. Membership is open to any sophomore, junior, or sen- ior who is currently taking a science course and who has an overall C average. Officers this year are: Dean Beasley, president, Jim Chambers, vice-president, Jeannine Portschi, secretary, and Kay Kilker, treasurer. Sergeant-at-arms are Leslie Martinez and Tom Manzanares. This year the club decorated the halls and auditorium for the Christmas holidays. The club also sponsored a Science Fair held in the high school in April. Junior Historical Society The Junior Historical Society was started in the spring of '57 but swang into full action this fall. The Black Dia- mond Chapter was the name chosen for the club because Black Diamond is another name for coal, the industry that started Lafayette. The officers this year are Judy Sherratt, president, Bonnie Weiler, vice-president, Jeannine Portschi, secretary- treasurer, and Dean Mathena, librarian.
