At present, Jim Gass has the record for the mile run of 4 minutes and 47 seconds. This year a lot more records ought to be set by our track team. WHERE THE PAST AND THE FUTURE MET History of the Class of '59 September 1947! More than thirty little souls started on a new venture as they enrolled at Lafayette Central. Some were happy, some shy, others bold, but little Belanda Carpenter shed many tears when mother left her at the school. After learning to write, Sharon Grabner wrote notes to her friends asking them to call her Fuzzy. Keith Prough was the class Romeo, courting all the girls at recess. Little Roselyn Ellis joined us as we entered the second grade. We were happy to welcome Jim Karr when we entered the third grade. During the third year, Shaneen Harrod displayed a new style after Keith Prough dunked her pigtails in an ink- uwell. Tom Sadler enrolled when we were in the fourth grade. Weren't we happy when Bruce Johnson and Jane Wood- ward started their studies here in the fifth grade? As we began our sixth year, Alma Lou Ewert enrolled in our class. Here, thanks to Mr. Lake, we became famil- iar with the good old paddle. DeWayne Heckely joined the group in the seventh year, and all the boys took part in basketball, track, and volleyball. Sharon Grabner took on a new look when she added a bit of coloring to her hair. . .Fun Sharon? This year, too, Gene Lopshire tried to convince everyone that he had elephants and giraffes in his barn. But we knew Gene by that time! We hated to move on from our last year in Junior High. Shaneen, Jane, and Sharon led our ballplayers to an astonishingly good season, falong with a little help, of course, from our coach, Mr. Klinej. Finally we made it into high school! Some of the girls began to study French, that romance language! Jim Gass joined our class and was our president for the next three years. Soft -spoken Sheila Crow joined our class when we were Sophomores. During the last three years, we numbered the same. We are growing up. During the Junior year we had a new experience, in giving a play. We all had stage fright: some lines were forgotten, some tears flowed. Then we had the honor of having the first Junior-Senior Prom. We made decorations for weeks, put them up in two days and then tore them down in three hours. What memories! Our final year is over. Many future plans are being made. Our Senior play, trip, prom and banquet are all in the past. Now we are looking forward to Graduation, but the memories of our school years will be pleasant ones, and will stay with us as our lives change. We will never forget old L.C.H.S. , -35- I X 5'-as f 1522? CLASS WILL I, Jim Karr, will my lucky track shoestrings to Mrs. Wellm I , Dave Bailey, will my ability to speak in front of a class I, Sheila Crow, will my ability to have a constant supply o I, Keith Prough, will my height to Mrs. Edwards. We voted Jim Gass to be a successful man, He's a willing worker and does all he can. He started work by selling plants, And who'd guess he'd own a big time ranch. We must not forget Keith, our pride and joy, Strong and well-built like a man of Troy. To become popular was his objective, But he's hated by crooksp he's a private detective. DeWayne Heckly is a scientific minded person, At Math problems you'll sometimes find him cursin' Bur he can be romantic and make girls swoon, He's now public relations man on the moon. Fame and fortune is Gene Lopshire's fancy, But playing the stock market is too chancy. Soto he an actor was his dream, He made T.V. and advertises shaving cream. Girls think Dave is smooth and cute, And while playing tennis, for him they root. But he's changed his life, also his ways, He goes to college and gets all A's. Betty Williams, sweet and shy Has already met a wonderful guy As a wife she'll make a hit with her kids she'll baby sit. When Barbara Wisel graduates, just see She'l1 receive a double degree. After gaining the initials R.N. MRS. is her goal then. Can't you just see Judy Topp Rock around gaily doing the bop. And then we see her drawing poses, Gaining the fame of Grandma Moses. Next comes Sheila Crow What's this?-She's making the dough! Oh yes, it's quite a story Sheila is in seventh glory. Sharon Grabner is quite a girl She's got poor Sam in a swirl Or maybe it's the other way around But anyway each other they have found. Here's Gerald Stephens a likeable chap, And what's he got? Why, it's a mapl Folks always wondered what he'd do, He goes skin diving: finds treasure too. .37- Now this is Sam, a friendly guy, He is quite clever and sort of shy. He BIB his Wheaties and how he grew He now jumps center for Indiana U. This is Jim Karr and as you can see, Quite a big man he has grown to be. He asked Charles Atlas for some help, And now he makes the bullies yelp. Here stands Alma Lou, don't pass her by Standing on the runway, waiting to fly She flies in jets and it's a pleasant vocation Helping handsome meng What an occupation! In New York, in a fashionable place Sat Bruce Johnson, an escort with a smiling face He gets S50 a night to look at the moon He charms the ladies and makes them swoon. Tom Sadler has always liked speeding cars Raced them around, nearly landing behind bars He now has no desire for automatic gems His desires have changed to models of femmes. Belanda Carpenter now has an enterprise Getting gals for lonesome guys Saving one or two in case She gets behind in the race. lane Woodward, short and sweet As a wrestler can't be beat When she steps into the square All the referees had better beware. Why look over there, it's Roselyn It seems that she's in quite a spin Something special about her vocation She's now a D.I. at the radio station. Nancy Chupp, a pretty maid Now at last has made her grade At secretarial school she made her mark Then she married her man, tall and dark. Elsie Fairchild had just one aim But overnight she gained fame The stork brought those five in one short trip She neither has time to eat or sip. Lou Ann and her guy were married in June Then to Alaska they moved quite soon He's selling overhead doors to the Eskimos While she mends socks to warm his toes. 4. , vu, W A 9 ,Q, 4 , ,,,, Dawg.. 2. vii, -f 2 r' 3' 4. First, our Senior and Junior Editors accompanied Mrs, Wellman to Indianapolis to get pointers on the meaning of tired dogs as making a yearbook. Then came the drive for advertisements. We learned we visited the many advertisers. Taking pictures was the next step and then. ,, the real work of making a yearbook, The efforts of the staff are rewarded by the pride of the students in the book, by the satisfaction of completing a difficult task, and by the personal knowledge and pleasure they have gained from the exper ience .,,,,, May you too, have pleasant memories to treasure always.
