When we returned to our second year there were no new faces. Then as the years passed, in our fourth year we had a very X nice addition to our class, a little blonde, none other than t Phyllis Baird. Entering the fifth grade a short, dark, and handsome boy t entered our class. Who was he? Why of course, Dick Parker! After hitting the half-way mark we had two additional students. They were Roberta Hatfield and Jack Lesh. r, I When school opened the next fall we found ourselves in the A seventh grade. Dale Swihart, bashful but nice, and Claire 1 Kirchner, a pert blonde, became members of our group. This i year we elected class officers and started having class parties. t 1 In the eighth grade we gained another member. She was a very cute little red-head. Her name is Ann Carney. .sg Entering our freshman year we were all a flutter, although N' it was a lot of fun. We made a lot of money sponsoring a skating party. During our sophomore year we made more money selling Y stationery, and head-scarfs, for we had decided on taking a l senior trip. In our junior year we had a play. It was entitled The A Daffy Dills. Also, we sponsored a banquet for the Seniors. From South Side High School, Kyle Parks came to join our ranks. Shirley Lehman left at the end of our junior year, and enrolled in Harlan High School. Our senior year was very exciting for we were looking forward to our graduation and our senior trip to New York. We have not chosen our senior play yet. When we think back over all this, we regret having to leave it. Nevertheless we look forward to the coming years with great expectancy and determination. Z -,,.- 1 -i l -- ,-.111-1 gl..-l iffgz-1

uwkeef of g0l'tlfll'le W '53 CLASS PROPHECY It is the year of 1973. You are relaxing in your easy chair by the fireplace, looking out over the horizon as the scene slowly sinks out of sight. You reach over and turn the dial of your T. V. set and suddenly see the announcer as he says: All you lucky people stay tuned to this channel for your well known news reporter Miss Lucile Bailey, who will bring you the wornan's viewpoint on the latest up-to-the-minute news. This special news report is brought to you by Channel I. O. U. in Zanesville, Indiana owned and operated by stockholders composed largely of the 1953 graduating class of Lafayette Central I-lighSchool. Good evening Mr. anzl Mrs. North and South America and all the ships at sea. Lets' go to press. First of all I have word from Borneo that Dale Swihart, a native fisherman proved that man can live inside a fish, although he was not aiming to prove anything of the sort. Dale fell overboard and was swallowed by an enormous whale. We'll assure you he had a whale of a time. After Z7 hours the whale burped and out came Dale, a little shaken up but perfectly all right. Oh! yes he got the whale for a souvenir. From Lexington, Kentucky, we receive word that several blondes have been smuggled across the border. An investigation has been made, and the guilty one is believed to be Dick Parker. Last night a fire broke out in a large building located on Jefferson Avenue in Chicago. The building is being occupied by the Man-haters club of Chicago. The owner, Miss Norma Jean Sink, reports that only slight damage was done. The fire evidently broke out in the basement due to the carelessness of the janitor, Mr. Joseph Comer'. I have not quite found out why a man should be found as a janitor of such an organization, but believe perhaps it might have something to do with his feminine-like personality. Within the past fifteen years the city of Aboite, Indiana has grown rapidly. Several factories have sprung up, and the most recent one is a corn-cob pipe factory owned and operated by Mr. Kyle Parks. Mr. Parks succeeded in this factory after failing in his first industry, which was the manufacturing of paper dolls in the town of Ellisville, Indiana. One of the greatest meetings ever held in New York is now in the history making stage. As you know these people stop from their steady grind of the everyday world to travel to New York once a year about this time to hold their annual meeting. This year Boxcar Mowery has been crowned Hobo queen of 1973 at the greatest Hobo convention ever held. l've just received word from India that Miss Roberta Hatfield, the famous foreign correspondent for the Roanoke Review, while covering a news story along the Indian Ocean met her long searched for Prince Charming, who turned out to be--guess who? No, you're wrong. I know you are all thinking of that certain '53 senior of whom Roberta seemed to think a lot, but the lucky man is, much to our surprise, Tonto, the famous Indian actor. 14
