When we returned to our second year there were no new faces. Then as the years passed, in our fourth year we had a very X nice addition to our class, a little blonde, none other than t Phyllis Baird. Entering the fifth grade a short, dark, and handsome boy t entered our class. Who was he? Why of course, Dick Parker! After hitting the half-way mark we had two additional students. They were Roberta Hatfield and Jack Lesh. r, I When school opened the next fall we found ourselves in the A seventh grade. Dale Swihart, bashful but nice, and Claire 1 Kirchner, a pert blonde, became members of our group. This i year we elected class officers and started having class parties. t 1 In the eighth grade we gained another member. She was a very cute little red-head. Her name is Ann Carney. .sg Entering our freshman year we were all a flutter, although N' it was a lot of fun. We made a lot of money sponsoring a skating party. During our sophomore year we made more money selling Y stationery, and head-scarfs, for we had decided on taking a l senior trip. In our junior year we had a play. It was entitled The A Daffy Dills. Also, we sponsored a banquet for the Seniors. From South Side High School, Kyle Parks came to join our ranks. Shirley Lehman left at the end of our junior year, and enrolled in Harlan High School. Our senior year was very exciting for we were looking forward to our graduation and our senior trip to New York. We have not chosen our senior play yet. When we think back over all this, we regret having to leave it. Nevertheless we look forward to the coming years with great expectancy and determination. IN WITNESS WI-IEREOF we, the class of 1953, have this, our will, signed sealed and delivered on March l, 1953. fSigned1 SENIOR CLASS L isga ,E xg I - -Q4 J Ti. gg ede jkingzi L9 O H MW 3, uwkeef of g0l'tlfll'le W '53 CLASS PROPHECY It is the year of 1973. You are relaxing in your easy chair by the fireplace, looking out over the horizon as the scene slowly sinks out of sight. You reach over and turn the dial of your T. V. set and suddenly see the announcer as he says: All you lucky people stay tuned to this channel for your well known news reporter Miss Lucile Bailey, who will bring you the wornan's viewpoint on the latest up-to-the-minute news. This special news report is brought to you by Channel I. O. U. in Zanesville, Indiana owned and operated by stockholders composed largely of the 1953 graduating class of Lafayette Central I-lighSchool. Good evening Mr. anzl Mrs. North and South America and all the ships at sea. Lets' go to press. First of all I have word from Borneo that Dale Swihart, a native fisherman proved that man can live inside a fish, although he was not aiming to prove anything of the sort. Dale fell overboard and was swallowed by an enormous whale. We'll assure you he had a whale of a time. After Z7 hours the whale burped and out came Dale, a little shaken up but perfectly all right. Oh! yes he got the whale for a souvenir. From Lexington, Kentucky, we receive word that several blondes have been smuggled across the border. An investigation has been made, and the guilty one is believed to be Dick Parker. Last night a fire broke out in a large building located on Jefferson Avenue in Chicago. The building is being occupied by the Man-haters club of Chicago. The owner, Miss Norma Jean Sink, reports that only slight damage was done. The fire evidently broke out in the basement due to the carelessness of the janitor, Mr. Joseph Comer'. I have not quite found out why a man should be found as a janitor of such an organization, but believe perhaps it might have something to do with his feminine-like personality. Within the past fifteen years the city of Aboite, Indiana has grown rapidly. Several factories have sprung up, and the most recent one is a corn-cob pipe factory owned and operated by Mr. Kyle Parks. Mr. Parks succeeded in this factory after failing in his first industry, which was the manufacturing of paper dolls in the town of Ellisville, Indiana. One of the greatest meetings ever held in New York is now in the history making stage. As you know these people stop from their steady grind of the everyday world to travel to New York once a year about this time to hold their annual meeting. This year Boxcar Mowery has been crowned Hobo queen of 1973 at the greatest Hobo convention ever held. l've just received word from India that Miss Roberta Hatfield, the famous foreign correspondent for the Roanoke Review, while covering a news story along the Indian Ocean met her long searched for Prince Charming, who turned out to be--guess who? No, you're wrong. I know you are all thinking of that certain '53 senior of whom Roberta seemed to think a lot, but the lucky man is, much to our surprise, Tonto, the famous Indian actor. 14 Predictions of things to come: Mrs. Tonto may very soon be counting papooses. One of the highlights in the society world is the long-awaited crowning of the bathing beauty queen. Last evening in a breath taking ceremony along the moonlit Hawaiian Beach, a large crowd witnessed the crowning of the Bathing Beauty Queen of 1973. The crown was bestowed upon Miss Claire Ann Kirchner whose home town is the modest little village of Scarecrow, Pennsylvania. After a brief station identification I will bring you the latest news from the sports world. You are tuned to channel I. O. U. in Zanesville, Indiana. Commercial: My dear people, do you feel laggy at the end of the day? Do your feet bother you? Do you suffer from rheumatic pains, nervousness, neuralgia, and backache or are you troublegl with grey hair? If so, be sure to try the new super all purpose Carney's little marvel pills which Miss Ann Carney has worked several years to perfect. Mr. L.. Karns from Roanoke, Indiana writes After taking one bottle of Carney's little marvel pills, I found my hair which had turned grey from much worry was once more restored to its natural colorg I was no more jittery and nervous and could once again wear shoes which I previously had not been able to do because of the condition of my feet. This pill which will bring relief for any ache or pain can be bought at any corner drug store, so don't delay--act today. Buy Carney's little marvel pills. And now back to our news reporter, Miss Lucile Bailey. The New York Jerkies who will play their first big league game on May Z with the New York Yankees are happy to announce a newcomer to their team. The coach, Miss Thelma Fair, is sure that Lloyd Bradbury, from Deadbottom, South Dakota, will help lead the .Ierkies to a successful season. Mr. Bradbury signed up with the Jerkies last winter after resigning his position as the Crooning crooser at the Stork Club. Correct time: 12:00 Midnight. This is your friendly announcer signing off and asking you to tune in again next year to Channel I. O. U. in Zanesville, Indiana owned and operated by the 1953 Graduating Class of Lafayette Central High School. H ime .xdfone jeff, 'PW-if K 'ax RPT: h 1 1 . F 511' 1'. 1 '4a 11-1 J A . Listen now our poem begins: LUCILE--Lucy To get our first specimen to Zanesville we go Since that's where her heart is as you all well know. We think Lucile will do all right If she starts gettin' in earlier at night. ANN - -Marthie All thru her life its been her fate To have people mention that distinguishing trait It's Ann's red hair, and we're talking about it. But will she ever dye it?---we sorta doubt it. ROBERTA--Bert Enemy to few, friend to many A match for this girl? There just isn't any We think Roberta would be doing fair If only Joe Comer would stay out of her hair. MAXINE--Mac A jollier lass you've never seen At the realm of laughter, Maxine's the queen In our path of memories she'll make a big crease For tho'ts of her will never cease. NORMA JEAN--Jeannie In here comes the girl with sweet little smile And the laughing eyes you can see for a mile. Many new friends in the future she'll gain Always our friend, Norm will remain. LLOYD--Herm Lloyd's plans for the future are very clearg Five healthy sons he intends to rear. That his basketball team will be girls he has no fears For it takes healthy girls to lead basketball cheers. JOE--Red Have you met Joe? He's the worst pest the world'll ever know When he gets something, he gets it bad, But nevertheless we think the world o' that lad. CLAIRE- -Annie At her dancing blue eyes and her blonde curly hair, Take a second look if you think that you dare But take warning brother, and by all means beware When Dick Parker is around you'd better not stare! RICHARD- -Dick His name is Dick, but we call him Dateg To fail in typing seemed just his fate Until at the teacher he learned to wink Dick's doing better in typing we thinkl P l P DALE--Beef Next on our line, I'm sure you all know, A guy who any girl would like for a beau But when the girls look at him they just turn pale, That's Mrs. Swihart's little boy, Dale. Now that these ten have passed in review And we've told you what we think of you A wish for your future whether near or far: May you always remain as close as you are. For the greatest wealth ten people can save Are the friends made and held from birth till grave. We'd like to get serious for a moment or two, And wish God's guiding care for each one of you. And hope thru the years where e're you roam, You'll always consider Lafayette your home, With your closest friends, wherever they be, These ten crazy kids in the class of '53. 1' V. w .V M. I l..... On the fourth day Dick was late to class again. Miss Fair looked him straight in the eye: tapping her pencil impatiently on the edge of her desk, she stated. Dick, your slipl Dick very calmly replied, What's wrong, is it showing? Mr. Karn's son: Did you see the stork that brought me, Daddy? Mr. Karns: Only the bill, son. I shall illustrate what I have in mind, said Mr. Lesh as he erased the board. Mr. Lesh: Can you give me the formula for water? Dalezl-IIJKLMNO Mr. Lesh: Whatever made you say that? Dale: Well, yesterday you said the formula for water was H to O. Cute blond in restaurant: Sorry, chum, but I don't go out with perfect strangers. Joe: That's okay, I'm not perfect. Lucile: He tried to put his arm around me five times. Maxine: My, what a long arm. Mrs. Edwards: This theme on Our Dog is the same, word for word, as your brother's. Claire: Sure, it's the same dog. Mrs. Colderbank: Why have you put your coffee on a chair? Mr. Wetzel: It was so weak that I thought it had better sit down. Roberta: I still don't know what I am going to do when I graduate. Claire: No need worrying about finding your station in life. Sooner or later somebody's bound to tell you where to get off. Miss Root: Parlez-vous Francais? Mr. Ashley: What? Miss Root: I said, do you speak French? Mr. Ashley: Oh sure, why didn't you say so in the first place? Coach: This is the fifth day this week I've had to tell you to be quiet. What have you to say? Lloyd: I'm glad this is Friday. Norma: And did you hold hands during the show? Ann: Oh yes, he held his, and I held mine. Freshman: Mom, may I take Mary to the ball game tonight? I'll be home about IO. Sophomore.: Mom, I told Mary I'd take her to the game tonight, can I? Junior: Mom, I'm taking Mary to the game tonight. Don't wait up. Senior: Mom, I'm taking Mary to the game. I'll bring the milk in. Mr. Karns: That Senior Class is smart, and I didn't have to find out for my- self. They told me.
