A weelc belore the memorable night the freshman class held an election of officers. The results of the election were as lol- lows: Bob Dailey, President, Fred Walters, Vice-President, Jean Hinshaw, Secre- tary, and Eddie Krenzelolc, Treasurer. Then came the big night. Stanton, J. llurriff, R. Lzonhard, L. Rorscheclc. To the boys that participated in football during the year of 1941, and to the faithful coaching of Coach Yelich, we give our sincerest compliments. Although no victories were enjoyed by the team or the coach, there was a faithful attendance throughout the entire season. It seemed that in every game the team gained more yards, and literally shoved their opponents all over the field, but when it came to the closing minutes the little Black Jinx was always there. But in spite of the many losses we still stand behind the fellows who went out to win, were defeated, yet still appeared Monday night for practice with set determin- ation in their hearts. And to the team of 1942 we give our best of wishes and hope that they get rid of that Jinx, and get on the win train for good. 0 DB BREDESON, Manager MR. BASKETBALL The boys of the '49 basketball team started out a little slow, but, nevertheless, they started-hand when they started rolling there was no obstacle in their way big enough to prevent them from becoming Champs of the l'leart of the North Conference. Only one team, namely the lads from Chetelc, escaped their vengeance. Every team was beaten at least once and most of them suffered twice under the sharp shooting, and the masterful ways in which the boys performed on the court. Only during the tournament did the jinx of the football season return to talce toll and defeat the Champs in their match play. To the team of next year we wish the best of luclc, and sincerely hope that their season be as successful as was that of the past. mf QM xxx X X I Bun ALLEN, Manager at Euci-i GALE BREDESON' MMS 35 ,fa .Q i , Y' I Zlfliiff GD L, JF Lwffvl 560 M .W W W, Pf'Y'S5f59'f'25?f5 y9y'5 Q Of5U,,fQJl!,,.L5v Vmffi M :rw Wd WW QW MMMEN fffff 5. ,VW MARVE Page Q4 BASKETBALL SCHEDULE DATE Nov. Vt It is a common conception that the masses of seniors belon to a rather low class of mammals. Of course you alllwill want to have a bit of proof of this so we of the staff have taken bits from themes that had been relegated to various wastebaskets to prove our state- ment. From one of Richard Stello's themes we have ex- tracted words of wisdom on the art of necking while driving. Stiff censorship prevents us from printing even a little part of it. We all agree that Dick is one of our most peculiar seniors but there are many others. We have in our high school seniors who seem to be very well informed upon some of the more advanced problems that arise in the course of one's life, such as matrimony. One of the more well-informed is Marvin Bollman. This little paragraph shows the proper way or otherwise for a bride-groom to wait for his bride: A small door at the right opened and he walked before the altar. He did not care his placement mark for an instant and overstepped, but he retreated cautiously still facing the enemy. One of our other students is Thomas Doyle. He is in the true sense of the word a zoologist. He puts all living things under two main groups: plants, and animals. And Hitler belongs to the latter group: Starting from the beginning, Mr. Hitler prob- ably came home drunk and beat up his wife just before our dear little Adolf was born. He was born with a full set of teeth, and his mother had cut the hair away from one eye so that he wouldn't look like Veronica Lake. From the above we will let you decide for yourself. One of the belles of the senior class has given us a description of the model theater attender. She has shown us, in her own subtle way, what the average movie-goers standards are: You are thoroughly enjoying the picture, Dr. .lekyl and Mr. Hyde. ln comes Mrs. Featherbottom with her two daughters all smelling like Sunflowers after a tornado. They arrive on time, in the middle of the picture and are escorted down to the middle row. After she gets herself and her two daughters settled you have alread missed five minutes of the show. Of course there are always those that are against the beloved pets that most of us have in our homes. Barbara Pagel is very much against cats, the friend of us al . Oh, is it swell to stretch out in the big easy chair. You have your book, your candy, and Guy Lombardo at your fingerti s. All of a sudden there comes a pawing at the chair. Janie's sweet kitten, Jenny, wants to et up in your lap, and you, of course loving littfe Jenny so much, let go with Scram, you pest. Well, that's settled now where were you? Oh, yes, 'The sea was calm, etc. From our little flower Doris Sweeney we have been handed down a short comment on perfume. On the whole, perfumes make me sick. Those sweet, sickening odors make my nose tickle and my stomach actually ill. lt has been rumoured around school that we have in our presence a very fine skater. She is Beatrice Haasl and following is a short note on how she feels when she goes out onto the ice to show her stuff. 3 O B As you approach the rink your courage backs down a step and all of a sudden you feel very sick. With a little encouragement your companion gets you to the warming house and finally gets your skates on and laced up. Then comes the real ordeal. Your ankles seem to fold under you but with much urging and coaxing you get to the rink. Suddenly the ice becomes very slippery and seems to come up very quickly to meet you. After being reassured by your friend that The ice is very slippery today, and accidents will happen, you pick up the re- maining pieces of yourself and again try to stand up. Among the masses of senior people there is one who could well be called our own little traveler. She NC can really give you the low-down on the proper way to conduct yourself on a trip. By the way, our little traveler is Betty Bourgeois. si 'U U Ns M its X X 004 221.3 da -S When the porter starts to take your bags, don't let him do it. He might run away with them. Snatch them away from him as soon as he reaches for them. Then he starts to help you onto the train. By all means, don't let him do this, because he might trip you or tickle you and make you fall. Now you are on the train safe and sound. Soon the conductor comes along to get your tickets. Before ou give yours to him inquire around in your car and' find out if he's a fraud or if he's really the conductor because you know there's nothing like being sure. You de- cide, after much inquiry, that the conductor isn't crooked so you give him the ticket. Then he puts a little colored ticket next to your seat, but don't let him do it, l'm tellin you. You can't trust anybody. They're probably sellling tickets for some raffle. Ask him all about it, and if you're sure it's O.K. to take it, and be sure that you don't have to pay money for it, well, it's all ri ht. Oh, and another thing, don't talk to anybody. l9hat's the worst thing you can do. They might kidnap you. The best thing to do is get yourself as comfortable as you can with a book and sit back in your own corner. If anybody asks you anything, don't answer, that's simple. The last of our little bits of essay comes from one of the more talented seniors. He has higher ideals in life than most of us because of his advanced brain. He has given us the great privilege of copying one of his finer S- works for our little annual. It is cal ed Man Over Be t, by Jeramiah J. Ju ltz. os- vi Q an Q 'Juufhere were t ose, in this thriving little metropo- 5 lis, who, have taken up as a hobby the raising of 5 pigeons, obstinately clinging to the belief that the XY homing instinct is still predominate in this strain. However, they proved false prophets, for upon bs- being released, these frouzy fowls showed a de- 9 cided preference for the friendly gables and back alleys, over their appointed rendezvous. ik At one particular hovel there are loads of Q pigeons. Every morning they coo at each other under the eaves. One Klinker K. Komozoulski happens to v have a room just below the eaves where several Q pigeons play house. Their sweet nothings are audible S to Klinker every day in the year. To avenge this distracting element, Klinker, being N neither philanthropically or altruistically inclined, has ,Q brought forth this unique plan of combat. He wakes XX up the birds by getting up at three each morning and Page 44 cooing out the windows at them for all he's worth. MUSINGS ' The people of the senior class, through the years of bitter experience, have decided that it is well that the up and coming underclassmen and women be taught the proper thing to do in certain classes. These things are in two classifications. The Do's and the Don'ts. Don't ever chew gum in Mr. Dahlberg's class. He is patriotic and believes we should give the rubber to defense.- Eddie Benson. Don't ever make any suspicious gestures while pass- ing Mr. Orme's room. He is very touchy about people commenting on the odor that comes from his room from teaching a dead language.-Virginia Glass. lt is all right to put'gum on the test tubes and beacons in Mr. Jay s chemistry class because he likes to have his pupils become attached to their work.-Richard Stel lo. If you go to Miss lzdepski's class with a bedraggled look on your face, it is all right because she loves to think that it is she who causes all the pupils to have bags under their eyes.- Bill Stanton. It is commonly known that Mr. Berg does not like to have his students pour glue in the machines. One day all of his students got stuck to the machines and when the bell rang none of them left. Mr. Berg thought that his students were really interested in their work and he had a heart attack.- Knute Rands. .l1 .l DETOUR Mr. Avis: ::Have you been through Trigonometry? He went into the Fields one day And found a striped kitten. They buried his clothes some six feet deep, They thought that that would keep er. But they had to dig 'em up again, And bury 'em six feet deeper. -Joe Dahlvig AN ODE TO RELATIVESH Relations are a funny lot They're something everyone has got Grandparents, cousins, uncles, and aunts 'l'hey're also something no one wants. What would we do without 'em though There'd be no one to leave us dough And l very much doubt if we'd been born lf it weren't for them we hold in scorn.
