Lack of experience as veterans plus the hei ht disadvantage were their greatest handicap in the conference race. The squad? consists mainly of sophomores and juniors, with the exception of one senior. Some promising freshmen and eighth graders took active part with the squad. Mikunda SCHEDULE OF 'l94O lnterclass Meet lnter-squad Meet Spooner-Dual Conference Meet at Rice Lake Eau Claire Sectional Meet TRACK i940 The 'l94O season ol spring sports showed a strong emphasis on track in spite of the short season. Dale Farley and Chuck Porter were the key men ol the squad. Farley's school and con- lerence record in the 440 yard dash of 53.5 made in 1939 came close to equaling the state meet record. porter has to his credit a WOO yard dash in 'lO.6 and a QQO yard dash in 93.5, made in 4939, both excellent times. Bernard Stusek, the iron man ol the squad, shows good lorm in the Q90 yard low hurdles and discus, Roberts and Steuhs led in the distance runs. McManus and Daniels, both new men, have good possibilities, Leslie Long took care ol the high jump early in the season. Hlangleiootn Zimmerman took over the high hurdles job. Qther new men on the squad promised to make it hot lor the First string men in every event. Coaches Kuemmerlein and Elwood predicted an excellent season For the hard-working squad.
