136 - Athletics Rams Convince Disbelieversg Skate to Seventh Consecutive Playoff Berth The Ladue Varsity Hockey Club silenced all disbelievers and completed another excellent hockey season. With the graduation of starting goalie Ron Poslosky and the loss of David Dur- ham, due to a football injury, the Hockey Rams were not expected to be competitive. However the Rams, led by quad captains Doug Drum- mond, Keith Cooper, Pete McGinley, and Jay Waggoner, skated to an excellent mark of 15-6- 3. The goaltending chores were bestowed upon sophomore Mark Marvel. Marvel played superb- ly and brought the team through another winning hockey season. Jay Waggoner spearheaded the Ram scoring attack with 69 points, and was closely followed by Reilly McGinn, Tres Jones, Jeff Bledsoe, and Peter McGinley. Standouts on defense included Doug Drummond, Brian Hertel, and Steve Willis. To get into the playoffs the Rams faced a do or die situation with Webster Groves. The Rams led throughout the entire contest until, with 1 minute remaining, the Statesmen tied the game. Then Brian Hertel released a low hard slap shot from center ice that scored at the buzzer. Her- 'tel's goal sealed the victory and a spot in the playoffs for the seventh consecutive year. In the playoffs the Rams defeated Parkway West in the first roundg however, the team lost in the second round to Vianney by a score of 9-3. All in all, it was an excellent season for the Hockey Rams.

Small, Young Swim Team 138 - Athletics Improves Record The 1978-1979 Varsity Swimming Team exhibited much improvement and growth from the previous season. The squad, led by captain Bob Chambers, swam to a 4-12 meet record. The most outstanding performances were displayed by ju- nior Scott Halliburton. Scott maintained an unde- feated record throughout the entire season, cli- maxing at the State finals where he captured a first place in both the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 yard butterfly. Ironically, the state record in both events are held by Scott's older brother, Jim Halli- burton. Coach Casey also received excellent per- formances from standouts Bob Chambers, Norm Halliday and John Freeman. The youth and spirit of the team appear to offer a brighter future for next year's team. XT'
