First and the grade As we of all we noticed that the high school had been painted peach and bright green school had been painted blue green and cream. climbed the stairs to enter the assembly we found that the assembly had new lights. When we lifted our eyes to see the lights we saw new pictures on the walls. The grade school, also, had new pictures. A new art room was located in the grade building in what had been the old third grade room. Later on a fountain that worked was placed in the assembly. Lockers were installed in the lower hall, and a new office for the principal was made out of the stage section of the auditorium or the junior high assembly. The seniors' gift to the school was a new safe and it was placed in his new office. ilk!!! lllllllk illllk Mrs. Edmiston: What is a furlong? Bob Powers: It means time. Like when your mother says you can go some place. but don't stay fur long. in mn 'H Mr. Hester: Dick, which month has twenty-eight days in it? Dick They all have. nw an-r um- Mr. Neff: When was Rome built? Joe: In the night. Mr. Neff: W here did you learn that? J'oe:' Well, you said that it wasn't built in a day. 13 SENIOR HISTORY After eight struggling years through the grade school we at long last became Freshmen, Although the big assembly seemed strange at first. after our initiation by the Sophomores, we learned to take things in our stride. During the Sophomore Year a new ruling was made by the Principal! WE COULD NOT INITIATE THE FRESHMENV' That nearly broke our little hearts. Then came our Junior Year. Jo Anne Brennan was elected President and Mr. Neff, sponsor. Our Junior Play, PapaSays No, which was given on October Zl, 1947, with Mrs T he D etec tive ..... Reese as our director, was a big success. The Junior Play cast was as follows: B ill Sykes - C lerk at the Mirama Hotel ...... Dick Williamson Joe - the bellhop ............................... Jim Reiter Toots - the elevator girl. .V Miss Luella Watts - meddlesome Mrs. Hawkins - an odd woman . . Genevieve Hawkins - a brat , Sallie - a waitress . . . . . . . . .. Barbara McKinsey old maid ...... Wanda Cloncs JoanRogers ..............BarbaraTharp . . Edna Maye Lewellyn . ..... B arbara Jeffries Liz - a waitress ...... ..... Marilyn Brown ........JoeProsser . . La Marr Nicholson . ....... Betty Hubble JerryBrennan Prompters ............... Rosemary Terry, Jo Anne B rennan We Juniors felt honored when the home-coming queen was chosen from our class, our own President, Miss Jo Anne B rennan. On April 23, 1948, we entertained the Seniors at the Junior and Senior Reception. At last in September 1948 we had reached the top of the ladder. Our Senior Year was a very active one in which we were busy all year thinking up money-making schemes to aid us on our Senior Trip. The following was a calendar of our Senior Activities. But he is the joy of the greenie class, And will probably snare a cute little lass. Jo Anne Brennan with her delicate ways, Will care for Bill the rest of her days She'll make him a perfect wife, And they'll both live an ideal life. Marilyn Brown with her classy airs, Will always long for Dorman's cares, But the piano is one of her joys, And she'll use this to toll on the boys. David Bryan, a Navy boy he will be, Soon he'll make French girls say We, We But his sweet Barbara will sit at home, While the wide blue sea Dave will roam. Wanda Cloncs with her high voice, Will probably be the opera's choice. She might be in The Barber of S evi1le But probably will land in Vaudeville. Who's as keen, . As Imogene, At rolling her eyes around? But she'll end up With a pot of luck, Obviously Hollywood bound. Phyllis Dickerson is Ladoga's cheerleader Fans have said We need her. Very good in speech she's been, And' we know she's Bob's queen. Everett Foster, the basketball player, Deserves credit layer upon layer. But no one has to have guesses, Who will receive Betty's caresses. Harry Griggs, the Lucky Strike, Has many girls within his sight. He'll spend his life looking for gold, Until the day he's gray and old. Betty Hubble, an intelligent girl, Certainly went through school in a whirl. She made many A's at a lively pace, But she'll win Everett without a race. Barbara Jeffries likes clothes silky and lacy, And probably will be a model at Macy. But with her bangs so sweet and alluring, All the boys will need a curing. Edna Maye, the ticket girl, Has a beautiful, long yellow curl. From private sources we have heard That she likes Alfred's beard. Laura Markey who's Oh, so shy, Has said to Ohio, Good-bye, Good-bye! We hope she'll be happy in our town, And find a guy and settle down. Dick McC laine. the demon of the class. Will always drive 50 miles too fast. Coming in three hours too late, Just to find out he's hit Da.d's gate. Barbara McK. so sweet and charmin', Has already begun her fame with Carmen. But we think she'll decide to marry: Will it be a Tom, Dick, or Harry? The senior boys are enraged, Because Frances is engaged. But they'1l calm down in a while, After glancing at her smile. We know so far, That it's La Marr For which the girls are screamin'. We also know, Under his chapeau, Of Cookie he's always dreamin'. Mary Jane Will never refrain, F rom having any fun. But she's the lass, In government class, Who gets her lessons done. Bob Powers, a jerk he is, At making sodas he's really a whiz. His poor bicycle, which is one of the best, We hope someday will get a rest. Jo Prosser, he's our little Einstein. But Norma says He's mine, all mine. A little genius he will be, Proposing to Norma upon his knee. Jim Reiter will be President of the U.S .A. In all the debates he'll have his say, Jack Hester Keeps him on the run, God pity the man who calls him son. Joan Rogers is a big girl now, Why not stand up and give us a bow. Her main interest is on the farm, Where Milford will certainly meet no harm P rophecy Qc ontinuedl Dick Rogers, the bull dozer of the team, Is always on the beam. When we're behind on the score, He piles up baskets more and more. Buddy Sandusky so quiet and shy, Someday he'll catch a girl's eye. Then he'l1 swing and sway, And be happy the rest of his day. Rosemary Terry, the intellectual type, Will never mess with foolish trite. She will never marry, But will be an efficient secretary. Dick Williamson has charms, In Pat's arms, After a tourney game. He isn't ignored In his Ford, By C -ville's scheming dame. Dick Zimmerman, a loud and boistero When he leaves school it'll be a joy. He is definitely a 1ady's man, us boy, And will never mix with a boyish clan. lklklk lklkfk IUHOUOI He: QB ringing a box of candy to girl, You know--sweets to the sweet. JUNIOR PLAY PRODUCTION JUNIOR PLAY CAST 19 7 11- V I 5 V If someone asked a high school graduate what year in school his class had the great- est financial troubles, there would be no hesitation in his response. When we were Juniors. That was exactly what we Juniors of 49 worried over. Like every other ambi- tious Junior Class, the first resort was to present a play. Ours, called Calm Yourself, was presented on October 9, 1948 with the following cast: Fred Smithie ................................. . . . Larry Nicholson Fannie Smithie. . . Lucie Smithie .... B arbara Hanson .... Harold Ainsworth . . . Jack Bird ............ Mrs. George Wonder . . . Mr. George Wonder . . Hank Webster ...... . . . Louise Hicks . . Ruthanna B ritts . . . Maybeth Todd . . . Paul Clark . . Carl Zimmerman . . Betty Eldridge . . Eugene Everhart . . Paul Lowery MaryZimmerman Among the several money making activities of the Juniors was the making and selling of novelty yarn dolls of green and gold. Although these were not found too successful in high school, the grades made up for it. There was a unanimous vote to try selling popcorn at all home ball games which turned out to be qute profitable. On November 9, 1948, with the Seniors, we planned and held a Carnival in the old gym dividing the profits between the two classes. Under the careful guidance of our sponsor, Mr. Neff, and the rest of the class, these activities were successful and we were proud to be wearing gray and maroon sweaters representing the class of 50. Our class officers for the year were President, Paul Clark Vice-President, Joed C lark: Secretary and Treasurer, Floyd Ball. EASTER BUNNY LARRY NICHOLSON Bunny comes but once a year With baskets full of eggs, And he travels many miles On four white stubby legs. He travels to the rich and poor To all colors and creeds, With Easter baskets by the score Carrying on his good deeds. When all is put away with care And night departs from day, Bunny would like to be there, To hear what children say. And now that all is happy and gay, And no one sheds a tear, Bunny would like to say- Good-bye until next year. 9 - a,.4....-....... , , , ,..nn......, OQOQS! +6 eo? MR. LIBRARY The school year of '48-'49 brought to the libraries of both grade and high school a supply of much needed new books. These books are both fictional and informative. In accord with the state recommendation, approximately one dollar per pupil was spent by the town- s'lip on library books. This addition has permitted the library to remove many obsolete textbooks from the shelves and fill the space with up to date materials.
