s ilk? 1 W my Y H . . mi - V5 is I' I' ' A V l 1 1 : l HonorS0ciet Founded Here A beautiful and impressive in- duction ceremony for the Ladoga High schoo1's newly elected mem- bers to the Eda Harrison Chapter of the National Honor Society was held in the gymnasium on Wed- nesday, April 7. The induction ceremony was based on the can- dlelight ceremonyg and, although it was' quite formal yet at the same time it was simple and im- pressive as was evidenced by the rapt attention of the student body throughout the ceremony. Preceding the induction cere- mony the Ladoga High school band under the direction of Al- bert Canine played the Van Guard March. This was 'follow- ed by a short talk by Olin Swin- ney, Principal of the Ladoga High school, in which he introduced the members' of the Crawfords- ville National Honor Societyg namely, ' Keith Davidson, Barbara Sims, Collins Wallace, Phil Fran- cis, Emily Bruce, and their spon- sor, Mrs. Mable T. Smith. Keith Davidson served as chair man of the induction' ceremony, and read the names of the newly elected members who came. to the stage and sat in the empty chairs which had been previously placed there for them. The students who were elected to membership in the Ladoga High School National Honor Society were: Mary Etta Ronk, Donald Gravit, Rosemary Terry, Wanda Cloncs, Barbara Tharp, Carl Zimmerman, Betty June Eldridge, Maybeth Todd, Ruthanna, Britts, Paul Clark, Louise Hicks, and Barbara Pace. MLA nl..-:..,.A.... '.....-L-' ..n'l.'.. ville National Honor Society and their sponsor were the luncheon guests of the Ladoga members in the high school cafeteria. Ladoga High school is to be congratulated on being the first county school outside of Craw- fordsville to be granted a chart- er of the National Honor Society. Ordinarily a school must be a member of the North Central As- sociation in order to be granted a charterg however, due to the educational progressiveness of the Ladoga High school during the present school year placed the school in the marginal area and was consequently granted a chap- ter by Paul E. Elicker, Executive Secretary of the National Associa- tion of Secondary-School Princi- pals of the National Education Association. The manner by which the stu- dents of the Ladoga High school were elected to membership' in the National Honor Sodiety can best be 'explained in the follow- ing statements. First, a list of all students in the senior, junior and sophomore classes who had 'a B average was made by the principal. Second, the faculty voted on each student on this list considering the remainder of the three cardinal principles--Chan acter, Leadership and Service. If any student received one or more negative votes on the above three principles, that student was de- clared ineligible for membership.
