The induction ceremony was based on the can- dlelight ceremonyg and, although it was' quite formal yet at the same time it was simple and im- pressive as was evidenced by the rapt attention of the student body throughout the ceremony. Preceding the induction cere- mony the Ladoga High school band under the direction of Al- bert Canine played the Van Guard March. This was 'follow- ed by a short talk by Olin Swin- ney, Principal of the Ladoga High school, in which he introduced the members' of the Crawfords- ville National Honor Societyg namely, ' Keith Davidson, Barbara Sims, Collins Wallace, Phil Fran- cis, Emily Bruce, and their spon- sor, Mrs. Mable T. Smith. Keith Davidson served as chair man of the induction' ceremony, and read the names of the newly elected members who came. to the stage and sat in the empty chairs which had been previously placed there for them. The students who were elected to membership in the Ladoga High School National Honor Society were: Mary Etta Ronk, Donald Gravit, Rosemary Terry, Wanda Cloncs, Barbara Tharp, Carl Zimmerman, Betty June Eldridge, Maybeth Todd, Ruthanna, Britts, Paul Clark, Louise Hicks, and Barbara Pace. Ladoga High school is to be congratulated on being the first county school outside of Craw- fordsville to be granted a chart- er of the National Honor Society. Ordinarily a school must be a member of the North Central As- sociation in order to be granted a charterg however, due to the educational progressiveness of the Ladoga High school during the present school year placed the school in the marginal area and was consequently granted a chap- ter by Paul E. Elicker, Executive Secretary of the National Associa- tion of Secondary-School Princi- pals of the National Education Association. The manner by which the stu- dents of the Ladoga High school were elected to membership' in the National Honor Sodiety can best be 'explained in the follow- ing statements. First, a list of all students in the senior, junior and sophomore classes who had 'a B average was made by the principal. Second, the faculty voted on each student on this list considering the remainder of the three cardinal principles--Chan acter, Leadership and Service. If any student received one or more negative votes on the above three principles, that student was de- clared ineligible for membership. The following points under each principle was considered: Service -- 1 1173115.-N.,-.fu-- J--. .4,.....1-.. SCHOOL BUILDINGS f in K I Fiji- li' A laureateat D eff their ciiafei. Bus body manufacturers have advised that they are now in a position to provide replace- ments. p A 9 .Since this order is restricted to bodies it is assumed that each driver to which it applies will not be compelled to buy a new chassis. This part of the vehicle, howeverff is subject to periodical inspection by the state police department and others, with emphasis upon adequate tires, brakes, headlights and ,other equipment. HISTORY Four years ago we started our high school careers as freshmen with thirty-one classmates. We elected Mrs. Bunnell as our freshman sponsor. We were duly initiated into our first year in high school. e Our Sophomore year was started by electing Miss Otterman as our sponsor. We had the pleasure that year to initiate the class of 49. When our class convened in September in 47 we were juniors. We tried every means possible to raise enough money to give the junior-Senior Reception. We chose Mr. Neff for our Sp0I1S01'.Ourjunior Play, Grandma Steps Out , was given on October 23, 1946 with Mrs. Edmiston as our director. - The Cast was as follows: .,.,.Alberta Ashley Mrs, Muriel Green, Granddaughter,,,,, Prissy. a neighbor brat ......Mary Etta Rank Ruth Green, Older Granddaughter .,,,,, ,,,. ..........Vernon Ross Adam Bailey, High School Principal ,,,,, , Mrs. Cora Snyder, Grandma ,,,.,...,,,... The Auditorium was decorated in a Southern Plantation Theme. After the banquet, dancing was enjoyed by all until 10:00 o'clock, then we went to the Ladoga theater and were entertained with a movie. In the fall of 47 we took our places as Seniors on the north side of the assembly. We elected Mrs. Edmiston as our sponsor. The first semester brought few activities, but the second swamped us with its activities. We met our dead line for the Annual and sold over one hundred copies. On March 12, we gave a St, Patricks' Day Carnival to raise money for the three-day Senior trip to Chicago. We gave our Senior Play April' 16, and enjoyed the junior-Senior Reception April 23. We listened to the Baccalureate Sermon April Z5 and took our Senior trip to Chicago April 26, Z7 and 28. We went via chartered bus, stayed at the YMCA and saw all the wonderful things in Chicago. Our class of 23, with the boys in blue robes, and the girls in white robes, were graduated Thursday night, April 2.9, Dr. Haramy of Indianapolis gave the address, which was on This Atomic World. , We were happy to graduate but felt a little sad to think we were really out of high school. 26' Ik Ik S02 Three boys Uerry Zachary, jim Reiter, and Kenyon Roberts, were sitting in the drug store drinking a milk shake one night just before a ball game. Their subject was , dying, Kenyon said he would like to die fast, maybe in a high speed automobile. Then jim Reiter said he thought that was a good idea of dying but he preferred a jet plane. Then jerry spoke up, agreeing with the other two boys, only he had a faster way yet,--by making some woman's husband jealous. .- . ' 'II' . PROPHEC Y A Alberta Ashley, the dancing star, Will become very famous near and far. She will go dancing through the air With her partner, the great Fred Astaire. They will go thru' life blending 'Til he looks at his socks that needs mending. jerry Zachary the black eyed squirt, He takes to anything wearing a skirt. And if jim gets sick she'll be his cure. Betty Hart, her head in the air, May try her hand at fixing hair. She could go in and help Marie Until she meets that certain he. Betty Everhart will clerk in a store Where people buy things by the score. She's so used to making change just from working at the ballgames. Mercedes with her queer little grin Someone's heart she soon will win. She will make her home real nice and cozy, Her husband will call her his little posy. For Marylyn Merchant, it's hard to say, Anything might turn up for her some day She's not cut out to be a college girl, But Qshej might send some good guy for a whirl, Sam Bryan, that slim little man, Will stay with the fballj team as long as he can, But then, when good old school days are o'er, He'll sail the seas forever more. Martha Long, the home -making type, Will make someone lHomerj a nice little wife. She won't beat him on the head, But just keep him very well fed. A dentist Kenyon will turn out to beg He will pull your teeth for a ve ry small fee. He'll work real hard all day long At helping make people's teeth stay strong. Chester Poynter will have his own farm, And there he will hide away from harm. He'll stay there and make his money From raising bees and selling honey. Clifford Cook will travel far In his old Packard car. He will travel around this world of strife, Until he finds some girl for his wife. Barbara, the cute little flirt, With her sloppy joe sweaters and Old length skirt, Will become very dignified, Taking notes at the boss's side. Beverly Britton with her very long . skirt, With every boy she used to flirt. But now she has picked out just Le Roy And her heart is filled with lots of joy. 111111 Martha: My father said he didn't like women who drive from the back seat. Homer S.: What did your Mother say to that ? Martha: She said back-seat drivers were no worse than men who cook from the din- ing room table. Dick Williamsonz' If I' should kiss you would you call your Mother? Margaret: No, it wouldn't be necessary to kiss the whole family. 111111 Twinkle, twinkle, little star, What in the world do you think you are? --A flashlight? aoswrarwrar Dick Rogers has to work his way through high school by milking cows. ---- -- just skimming through. 111111 The Freshman is grassy and grows. Kenyon R.: Medicines. jim: Feeling better? 111111 Wimpy, Mr, Bullock said, You shouldn't laugh out loud in the class room like that. because it isn'tvery nice. I didn't mean to do it, I was smiling and the smile busted, replied Wimp. 3111111 LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT On this happy and special date We, the seniors of '48 i Would like to leave to all of you. The fun we've had our twelve years through. And now as we approach our last step, We just realize that we should get hep. So to the teachers who helped us get here We leave our best thoughts from year to year. Now a traditional gift we'd like to bring forth, Yes, that's our seats on the very far north. We hope you juniors will like them okay And be there to sit in them every day. Our sponsor this year was Mrs. Edmiston And with her as our guide we sure had fun. Now this was her second year with us And she agreed to will something without any fuss About every heresay in school is a rumor But this is true -------- she has a good sense of humor She'd like to pass it on to whoever can use it, But take it from us you'd be silly to ever refuse it Now each senior we'll mention with care And leave something to every junior so fair. Now don't fret we'll give something to everyone So here's hopeing wegend with lots of fun. Alberta Ashley, the rattle -brain type, Is always ready to argue or gripe. She got all her de -merits for chewing gum So she wills this tendency to Bob Powers--- The innocent buml Beverly Britton, the country gal, Wants to leave her long skirts to a pal. She'll bequeath them to Margaret Long this time Whose skirts are above the new style line. Now about Sam Bryan, we're going to tell As a student manager he was swell. When Sammy talks he is hard to hear He mumbles a lot and his voice, isn't clear, So this trait he'll leave to Dick Zimmerman dear Now Dick is a member of the junior crowd And his voice can be heard 'cause it's boisterous and loud Clifford Cook has an outstanding feature And that you all know is his height ------ the tall creature So he'll leave his tallness to a short little lass Thlfs Barbara McKinsey of the junior class. Last Will and Testament fcont'dj Next is james Davis ----------- we know him as jim, The girls save their admirable looks for him. Some say he has that Van johnson look When he finds the time to glance from his book. To Harry Griggs goes his look and his grin So we hope in the future this benefits him. Betty Lou Eve rhart is next in line, Thisn gal studies government all the time. She makes A's and B's in this subject 'tis true So joan Rogers we know that this will help you. I-Iere's to Irene French with lots of steam, She was a member of this year's cheer-leading team. Some say they'd like a boy for a change Well, Irene gives her place to Richard McClaine. Everett Foster, you may smile and be glad, A seniors's leaving you somethin' you need very bad. Donald Gravit gives you his A's and B.'s So you can forget those 'C's and D's. Now Martha Gray, who loves to chat Has a figure quite slim though it used to be fat. The diet she used she has to thank So Betty Hubble this is yours, just to be frank. Betty jane Hart, we'll talk about now, For lessons in typing she'll show you how. To Rosemary Terry goes her cute little stride, So straighten up Rosie 3 accept it with pride. Edward Hart, the quiet boy, Is well known for his actions so coy, His blushes plus his manners so shy, He wants to give jim Reiter-- Well you know why! Martha Long, a real pal to all, Has her man at her beck and call. Her ability to go steady she wants to leave, So this goes to Wanda Cloncs who'll gladly receive. john Mahorney, alreal handsome brute. Flirts with the girls he considers cute. This trait goes to a junior so shy, Buddy Sandusky, use this and we're sure you'll get by Marylyn Merchant, has something to give, Now take this advice and your character will live. Her friendly disposition and dry sense of humor, Go to joe Prosser, so be a worthy consumer. g Last Will and Testament fcont'dj I-Ielen'Pace,' withbtg' brown eyes, Has a bright smile for all of the guys. She's really quite short and has to reach far, So her stature she wills to Edna Mae and LaMam-. Richard Pitzer, the next senior lad, Wishes to make. a fair junior glad. To Marilyn Brown and her feminine fragility, Goes Richard's ho.rse-back riding ability. Chester Poynter, who tills the soil, Is much too quiet to cause any turmoil His knowledge of the farm goes to you Phyllis dear, And we hope you'll be farming the next thing we hear. Kenyon Roberts, the next one in view, Wants to leave something, Morris Sillery, to you. He played on the varsity and was right on the beam, So to this oncoming senior Kenyon would like to leave, His proud position on the basketball team. Now Mercedes Rodman, a quiet little miss, Wants to leave someone with happy bliss. When asked to leave Ernie she said, Well, Okay So Barbara Jeffries we know this will make you feel gay. Mary Etta Ronk, the next on this list, Leaves something to Dave Bryan whom we almost missed. Her main feature is her tooth paste smile. Quit frowning, Dave, this is-for you my dear 'chilel Vernon Ross we wouldn't pass by. I disagree is his often-heard cry. When an argument's mentioned his eyes take a. gleam, So his gift of gab goes to Richard Rogers and Imogene. Next is Barbara Vice, as you can see, No, she won't will jim, he's her husband-tdbbe. Her technique she'll leave to the first gal in sight, So Barbara Tharp, you need not stay home at night. jerry Zachary, wants to leave a gift, And two junior boy's spirits now should lift. The women in his life he got by winkin' and grinnin' But he's leaving them to pals, Dick Williamson and jerry Brennan Here's to our teachers so generous and kind, So we'll leave to them what's on our mind. Startin' right now get ready to laff, Cause we're gonna have fun with the whole darned staff! Last Will and Testament fCont'dj To Mr. Neff, who coached here so long, We will our ambitions and efforts so strong. To sponsor those juniors took plenty of nerve, So we hope next year he'll still be able to serve. Next is Mr. Bullock, who taught us the facts, About our governrnent and all it's acts. Well now we're going to give to you, Our ability and outstanding technique to argue. I-Iere's to Max or we should say Mr. Buell, This was his first year to teach in our school. So to this teacher who's just beginning, We'd like to -will our ways so winning. Now to Hester we'll give a toast, I-Ie has many good traits about which we could boast. We guys who consider our health-knowledge potential Leave it to him, which seems conventional. And we girls will bequeath him something right quick, Our ribbons for his hair so wavy and thick. To Mr. Canine, our new music man, We're going to leave something if we can. His main hobby is note detection, So the girls would like to leave to him Their bright colored neckchiefs for his tie collection. And to Mrs. Ludlow goes our thanks. She helped us along in spite of our pranks. So we'll give her our height, with her consent, And she'll look like a teacher instead of a student. Mrs. Reese who teaches English Is going to get something we're glad to relinquish. To her goes our love for grammar' and stuff So room 'E' will ring with her voice so ruff!! ' Mrs. Robertson we'll speak about now, The girls couldn't cook, so she taught them how. After such an ordeal she'll need a rest So to her goes all our pep and zest. Last on the' list is our principal dear This was his first year to be here. Our love for the school and discipline all 'round Goes to Mr. Swinney with rules so sound. Well, now you juniors should really feel gay. We're sending something much wanted your way. To you lucky little squirts We're ,giving our senior cords and skirts. To all you kids we'd like to leave The many de -merits which we received. Later we piled in a wagon of hay fwhich was pretty crowded, and were off to a merry ole' time, except Max had a flashlight. Sadie Hawkins Dance A Sadie Hawkins dance was sponsored by the Student Council on Dec. 12. There were about twenty-five couples who attended. There was no admission charges but in order to be admitted, the boys had to be escorted by a girl and' both had to dressed in dogpatch style. Some girls provided corsages for their dates. Typical corsages were made of carrots, onions, corn husks and anything available tied up in a pretty ribbon. After everyone was out of breath from dancing, Mr.Swinneyg announced cokes would be served. After more dancing, couples took their places and circled around for the judges to decide the best dressed coup'le. Our own Louise Hicks and Paul Clark were selected as the best dressed couple . More dancing and another round of cokes followed. At about l0:30,'L- the girls departed to escort their dates home. Freshmen b Class of 1951 I A- ,.,. --.,-,-.......,L,v,, , A- .J .. , ,L..18....4. A very nice program was enjoyed the last Friday in each month. Many things were learned about the Romans, their names, games, marriage customs, schools, homes, roads and things too numerous to mention. A few things of humor were en- joyed as the club progressed. Songs were sung in Latin and some very strange poems read, such as the one below. Program books were kept and presented at open house in April. At the beginning of the second semester this enrollment had increased to 34. Quite a few girls from the Chorus were fortunate enough to be able to attend the Indiana State Choral Festival at Cadle Tabernacle, October Z4, 1947. This is always one of the best programs given during The Indiana State Teacher's Convention. Those attend- ing were, Alberta Ashley, Phyllis Dickerson, Irene French, Louise Hicks, Edna Maye Lewellyn, Barbara McKinsey and joan Rogers. They were accompanied by Mrs. Harley Campbell and Mr. Canine. ' The Chorus took part in an all schoolaflhristmas Music Program put on by the Music Department under Mr. Canine's able direction. The most outstanding part of the program- was a living Christmas tree made by the girls dressed in wine colored robes, with large white collars, with each girl carrying a silver-sprayed hemlock branch. While in the tree arrangement the girls sang these four Christmas songs: ' A Q , UC..0000...'CIOCOlQ.UIOUQCICOIll.li'.l'..lOO.l.l...flGevaert l.........l..l...'l.Ql..
