Since that time my life has changed completely, for I am now a buyer for Macy's Department Store in New York City. This parti- cular week I was sent to Chicago to attend a convention and pick up a few things for the store. Being so close to my home town of LaCrosse, I decided to pay it a visit. The town had enlarged so much since the last time I was here that I decided to let the taxi driver take me to a good hotel. When I leaned forward to ask him, I was surprised to find it was no one else but John Ailes. John said that he owned a taxi company, but his main interest was in stock car driving. He told me that his nick-name was 'Speed-Demon Ailes, the Terror of the Track.' We had a nice long talk and then John took me to the newest hotel in town, the Carlton Arms. That afternoon I rented a car and decided to find out what has happened to the rest of my classmates. Along the way, though, I got sidetracked, for in the window of one of the dress shops was a dress of exquisite design. I just had to find out who the designer was. To my surprise, when I asked for the manager, who else should it be but Donna Mason. I asked her about the dress and she told me it was one of her originals. It seems that after she got out of school she took up designing and had later come back to LaCrosse to establish her own exclusive shop. We talked for a while and then decided that we would have dinner at her apartment and then go out on the town. I asked her if there was anything I could bring for dinner. She said there wasn't, but I decided to get something anyway. As I entered the supermarket, I found a poor woman who was in need of a helping hand. Her grocery sack had broken and baby food was going every which way. I picked up a few of the Jars and was taking them over to her when she turned a- round. To my amazement it was none other than Shirley Tesmer. She told me she was married to a K. O. P. executive and had two sets of tw ns. As I finished helping Shirley pick up her baby food she told me that Harold Maupin was going to make his debut on television tonight. It seems that Harold has been an understudy to Liberace for these past ten years and was going to be on his show tonight. Courtesy of LsPorte Co. Fanm Bureau Coop. Ase'n. Inc. It was getting late so Shirley had to run. Since I still had a few spare minutes before dinner, I decided to get my hair done. The LaMar Beauty Salon caught my eye, so I thought I'd give it a try. While I was sitting in one of the booths, the owner, Sharon Beecher, heard that I was in the building so she stopped by to say hello. We talked while I was getting my hair fixed. I told Sharon that if she had no other plans for the evening she should come along with Donna and me. She didn't and we planned to meet at eight. I rode around town for a while just seeing the new sights and listening to the radio. Suddenly a commercial blared out WVote for Walter A. Spiess for Representative of the 3rd District.N At first I couldn't believe my ears. Could this be the same Arlie Spiess who had gone to school with me? Just think, a former classmate running for Representative! Since it was getting late, I went back to my hotel to change for dinner. By the time I reached Donna's apartment, she had the steaks sizzling on the grill. After dinner we sat around talking over old times until Sharon arrived, then we started out for the night club. Inside the club we checked our wraps and waited for the head- waiter to show us our table. You can imagine my surprise when I found him to be Ken Pfledderer. It seems after he graduated from high school he married a French woman, who taught him enough French to qualify for his present job. He then led us to a ring-side table and promised to be back later on. We were just seated when the lights were dimmed for the floor show. The announcer came forward and announced that tonight they had the singing sensation from the West Coast, Marthena Schenck. After she had inished her numbers, we sent her a note asking her to come to our table. When she arrived we visited until it was time for her next show. It was early in the morning when we got back to the apartment and I had to hurry to catch my plane. What a wonderful time I had seeing and visiting with all my old classmates. by Betty Hildebrand Courtesy of Shultz Roofing Co. We have been working busily to prepare this section in 1955-56. We realize that before we can score we musi have a goal. We hope future teachers will direct and point out the may, not only for them- selves, but for us. ' Then during the Christmas holidays Peggy Bell moved to LaPorte and in January Al- fred moved to Hanatah. This left us with twenty-five. Eddie Colliton will also leave us in Aoril to go to live in Oki- nawa. That means Eddie will be several days on a large ship. We know he will enjoy this trip. We have three reading and phonetic groups in our room. We like phonetics and most of us like to work out new words. It is fun when we know our sounds. We enjoyed the rhythm band we had be- fore Christmas. We first keep time on oatmeal boxes and then we used toy in- struments. With the boxes we made Hol- land windmills. We also learned why this country has to use windmills. Unity Chevrolet Cc.
