Iiburdi's introductory poetry classes. this was also the year trail's women became liberated-slacks and jeans. another landmark in our second year of high school was the fact that we were the first school to win the newly instituted class b eastern conferenceg but i think the clearest memory we hold of eighth grade was the addition of a new principal-mr. tuthill . .. freshmen at last! lynn evans, carlene gallo gl peggy welby don't dare call us ninth graders- we're the itty bitty kings of the ir. hi! i remember how the peace gang migrated to trail, and how this was also the year we were inaugurated into junior var- sity sports of all sorts. being freshmen also brought participa- tion in the homecoming festivi- ties with beth being our initial representative in the queen's court. if i'm correct, none ofthe girls will ever forget bill's hall walking and lunch room visits. ray harmon 8. brian bush john Sanders, chris stark 84 tj- Couzens randy StuII81 martha borove 4 I i we saidihola! to Sen0r and bisected everything in sight. . 32 de ker 81 bekah booth linda becker. karen galvin, 81 sue williams fx V fgff remember miss rush's english classes? one section being especial- ly priviliged to be handrake's first aud- ience! our basketball team won a class c championship this year, and two portable classrooms were our new additions, but be- fore we knew it, it was on to bigger and better M41 things for us ........ wmv ,-he dawn antoine 81 margie slater 33 sophomores! -they may have called us silly, but at least we got to go home at 2:37... A-v-9. elena aten, bev stacknick, 81 debbie antoine once again sulphur filled the air as chemistry literally scar- red us for life. this year it was varsity sports for us, and judi was our homecoming dele- gate. a christmas and valen- tine's day dance added to our social life, but more impor- tant, i remember this as the year we became affiliated with Clarks summit's dances. beth davis presto chango: mr. crothamel turned doc, and jim neary became one of us. permits and licenses brought us into Contact with mr. fenwick. who kept re- minding us to- keep it be- tween the guard rails. but there were sad times too: good-byes to pyles and kyles had to be said. i think we all remember tenth grade as be- ing the year of a much needed change-mrs. doughty started folk and madrigal, and we fin- ished the year with a salute to broadway. 37 inn ENEM D0 NOT 81 alien wadge Haj next to our senior year, f' 'T ua 'rift it our junior year had to have been the busiest. . . ,,f'f rl nowalk, bill steele, duane white, 8- tom morden cindy jones 8. tina newman once again, judi became a part of the queen's court. most notable, this year was the beginning of the energy crisis and the switch back to daylight time dur- ing winter. remember catching the bus in the dark? we welcomed jack middleton, the beuck, and ms. weisberger as we said t'hello to coach ronchi and bye- bye to roy davis. with steve kepic as our president, we started our devastating money raising campaign with school spirit U3 tumbler sales, then continued our quest with a highly successful grea- ser day and dance Cbringing the fifties back to trailb. the annual junior vs. facul- ty basketball game, the men's faculty and junior girls being victorious, culmi- nated with a pie eating contest and its annual mess. i 39 there were many, many bake sales that year, norman wright, dave dixon 81 doug johnson bf ,ww .,,,, 1 25 Q 40 nanette mattnews 81 ca rol gruber paulette dixon, patti johnson 84 judi morgan -, 'ki :rv,,,, Y l alan nordahl 81 charlie watkins ,I Ti and our last project was a car, and occasion- al truck, wash. i also recall mr. brittain's helpful health classes and the day in the gym when mr. conway opposed women's lib. mr. ronchi finally got hooked this year, and senior slave day aroused alot of friendly Cand expen- sivej competition. the baseball season was highlighted with charlie watkins Conly a junior at the timej being named athlete of the week. i'm sure all of the music groups look back fondly on their trip to n.y.c., and pippin , and reflect proudly on their presentation of guys and dolls. remember the abundance of streakers at play practice, and at mary lou's party on the closing night? but along with the good memories, again there were sad ones as we lost mr. hammerman ..... we may never pass this way again, said it all at our hard earned prom: and we, the mighty saw grass bearers, watched as the class of '74 left an empty space for us to fill . .. 41 senior year! 'Fw debbie thomas, linda domenic, 81 kathy moyle david schmidt8t karl smith .f- v, and privileges the first day! we didn't know what to do with ourselves! so many trips were made to marni's and the bird. iudy morgan was elected class president and dan naylor was student council president. this was our last crack at trophies and titles for sports, so we did it up right: the girls' hockey team did themselves proud by making it to a championship play-off and our foot- ball team, the first trail varsity team to go undefeated, captured the su- burban conference and northern division class b chan'1pionShip. steve kepic got named athlete ofthe week during football season and mary bitler was our homecoming queen. the boys took second place in the trail classic while the cheerleaders won the cheerleading award. a christmas dance featuring mule and sponsored by the student coun- cil highlighted the christmas vacation. probably the most successful activity ever attempted at trail was the old english dinner put on by the home ec., art, and music departments. donita wright linda vian, 81 cindy hovasutis art schild, richard thomas, richard schirg 43 paula lewis i remember the gym as the senior meeting place where we played hockey, volleyball, or whatever sport was in season . . . we missed ki kman, but she was luckier than us- she missed the lice epi- demic that was even pub- licized in the new york times! remember taking college boards, then wait- ing for that acceptance or rejection from the college of your choice? i also look back happily on our final spring show -a student written musi- cal comedy on whaling and sailing. next were spring assemblies, the honors assembly. and rehearsals for vespers and graduation. jack middleton, tom smith, 81 roy decker ,. fa, dave bryer 81 iohn symuleski time went quickly as we made our last attempts to leave behind some furthur impression of our existence at trail. dave wesko 81 packy o'dea ' .ar H marty chibirka 84 charlie bray P john stone, eugene barron, 81 don stone ron clark, alex kleiner 84 tom kilmer , M dave taylor, dave reese 84 dan naylor before i knew it graduation night approached and it was time to go. saying good-bye to a familiar old routine. teachers, and friends wasn't as easy as i thought. look- ing back, i now realize that i came a long way. new ex- periences have now re- placed the ones i left behind and new friends have taken the place of those i've lost, but i frequently think back on those high school days in the hope of recapturing some of the freedom and youthfulness that were so much a part of growing up. 47 best aII-arour1d- parker bagley 81 evelyn boston 48 s Z fi 5 Y Q 5 5 rn class leaders-dan naylor 8. judi morgan best athlete- charlie Watkins 81 ann tylutki who's who best looking- doug johnson 84 kathy Schneider .ff most likely to succeed- iohn sankeylif karen galvin class flirts-debbie viola 81jeffo'maHey best dancers Ions bogmskn 84 david lindsey best dressed nanette matthews 81 al beucker .mln J' ff K kk F5 1 -' best personality-mike clancey 84 paulette dixon class comics-biil jenkins 81 mary bitter l? Thoughts of the crowd, the lights, and knowing this was for real turned my stomach into a swirling restless tide. this monster grew inside me until with the opening kickoff, the first stick of the game, it was released and all that remained was the desire to play football- and towin . .. ...J honesdale looked huge as they ran onto the field. they were one ofthe preseason picks to win it all and here we were readying ourselves to play them. once again that monster raged, and again, on the opening kick- off, it was released. it was a battle of the defenses, but we seemed to have the secret weapon- - desire . . . a week later the skies threatened us that this was no day to play football, but we went against their wishes and began the game with west side tech. the game was full of mud, wetness and cold. any advantage we had was nullified by the torrential downpour, all advan- tages except one- desire... 58 for the second straight week rain was falling as we took the field. we were favored to beat carbondale easily but still my nervousness was evident. it was a battle just trying to hold onto the muddy football and get the best footing possible. Mix... .Lu it was nearing the end of the fourth quarter and, as yet, no one had crossed the goal line. then we dug in and within a matter of seconds, we scored twice: a quick trap gave us the first score of the game, then a great defensive play went for another t.d. to put the game, then a great defensive play went for another t.d. to put the game out of reach for our opponents.someone had to like US... gif it!! x-.1-' wma 'nik Q s...
