Increased empha- sis on the needs and problems ofpupil s as individuals requires experienced and qualified counselors. A broad and defi- nite program of testing is provided. To m e et the needs of all pupils includingthe gifted, these test results are utilized and evaluated in terms of how the school c an best serve the student. Graduation plans of seniors including choice of a c o 1 l e g e or technical school, and progress of graduates in areas of higher education are matters of continued interest to the counseling staff. The facilities at our new senior high school in the form of conference rooms, access to published materials on college and jolnpportunities, and testing devices are excellent. Mo st importantly, we have Counselors of wide experience as teachers with a full under - standing of classroom problems and with a patient and understanding attitude. MR. EDWARD J. Even the newest in sound- proofed celings cannot contain the enthusiasm o f our cheerleaders a s they perfect their la t e st rouser for the next game. The cheerleader must be a fusion of many qual- ities. Perfection is only one. She must have the grace of agazelle, the lightness of a feather, the power of a dynamo, the voice of a fog horn the guile of an ambassador, the coyness of a coquette, and anundying confidence and enthus- lasm for her team. The hopefuls who try out for the squad all possess many of these qualities. It is, However, only those who canpolish and develop these qualities into an asset c alled poise whowill be chosen for the 1960 JV squad. Then, like Sandy, Arlene, Louise, Chris,Evie, Peggy, and Dana who have added something in the way of their own unflagging spirit to our cheers, will they deserve to be remembered. I This year's Junior Shrangri-La was the high-light of the social year for the Class of '60, Many Juniors worked diligently weeks before the big night to help make it the most charming of all Junior Proms. Ted, Kloc, our President, directed the work ofall the Committees and the kids pitched in enthusiastically. There were times, however, when the workers felt like pulling out their hair, but eventually all problems were 'ironed out The theme, Shrangri-La , was an innovation depicting an oriental motif and the CIO Hall lent itself beautifully to the decorators' ideas. The climax of the evening was the Coronation ofthe King and Queen of the Prom by last year's monarchs, Jack Eszak and Louise Radlowski. The Queen for 1959 was Josie Cha- yan, and the King was none other than Gene Campy also known as Klubek . Josie's attendants were GerryJavorski and Esther Urbanczyk. Attending his majesty were: T e d Kloc and George Bartokvich. As the strains of the Grand March faded, we realized that our fantabulous pro m was a memory but a most pleasant one. 34 .2 EE 'SQEPEEM - A if gm EMM WT? Many parties preceded the Prom , but long before nine o'clock the lobby of Kleinhans was a brilliant and exciting pageant of color and charm. The Grand March, led by King Joe Rlornanowski and Queen, Jo an Cipriano, with their court climaxed a memorable even - ing of dancing and chit-chat at the Punch Bowl. Then we descended on some of the more elegant local night spots to complete a perfect dream night. Perhaps the greatest difficulty was the transportation adjustment . Happily, most of us adjusted quickly aided by the cooperation of the Buffalo Transit Corp. a.nd the Eighth Period presided over by Mr. Doherty and Mr. Hasler. During the second semester, a wave of mild illness swept through the area with far more apparent effect among pupils in the secondary schools. In spite of illness, however, the students of our School maintained one of the highest percentages of daily ave r age attendanc e compared to other schools ln the Western New York section. The majority of students realize that employers always check with your school regarding attendance and punctuality records. It is therefore, to your advantage to establish the best record possible. We are proud of our record as a school since we have consistently maintained an average attendance throughout the year of 963, or better. How about YOUR record for 1959 - 1960 ? 82 415 Rf Q--1 LJ C?
