To The Seniors Your high school career has embraced the most critical years in American history. From the tense days of Guadalcanal to the eventful scene on the deck of the Missouri, you attended your classes feeling always the uneasi- ness and the uncertainty of troubled times. Many of you thought con- stantly of fathers and brothers overseas, but all of you carried on courage- ously, scorning the war-time alibis for failure and misconduct. As a class you may be proud of your adjustment to the demands of war and of your reconversion to the responsibilities of peace. Knowing as you do the agony of war, you cannot ignore the need for a reorganization of the world that will effectively prevent the recurrence of such a conflict. The core of such reorganization is education. Your teachers at Lackawanna have opened to you the doors to useful knowledge and moral guidance. You have been offered the tools of independent thinking and have been trained to know and accept your responsibilities. You are there- fore prepared to seek the truth and make right use of it. You are now ready to continue your studies or to embark on a career in bus- iness or industry. In any event, your school will always be interested in your future success. Particularly are we concerned about your social, moral and spiritual relationships. Know and unselfishly discharge the duties of citizen- ship. Make your full contribution to the upbuilding and upholding of democracy. Know and be ambitious to realize the ideals of true manhood and womanhood and may God be with you all your days. Sincerely, 21
