Mr, Siegen thaler accepted a job in Ethiopia teaching boys in vocational agricul ture and biology, Mr, Irick took over for the second semester. He is doing a fine job and by next year he will be acquainted with the boys and i the program here at L, C, C, H, S, We A are expecting some fine judging teams in the near future. Nw Shlrley operatmv the mlmeovraph nl-4 f1C achlnes room Z4 B band twirlers fcontinuedl L, C, C, H, S, is one of the few schools who are able to support an orchestra and it has been an organization of highest quality for years, Consistently winning lst awards at the mu ic f stivals it is of Great im ortance to roframs at L C C,H S, The orchestra numbers S 6 , s P P 2, . . . 70, and consists of a large corps of string instruments who are ably supported by wind and per- cussion instruments from the band, The major appearances of the orchestra include the fall Music Varieties program, the Christmas Program, a spring concert, the Commencement exercises, An exchange program with the Independence Junior High School was an interesting event for both schools, The band has grown so large that it was necessary to divide it into two groups, known as the A band and the B band, The A group is made up of the more experienced students and play more difficult music, However, the B band has performed the same functions and has done so in an equal manner, The band activities are many and varied, They include many out of town trips for parades and other functions, It was particularly busy this past football season, where a new half-time show was presented at each of the five home football games, During the second semester, the concert season came upon them and the two bands joined together for the winter concert, The bands were made up of 140 students, This number promises to increase to about 160 in another year, An important part of the band was the twirler corps, After the football season, the twirlers and drum majors drilled at many of the home basketball games, to the delight of the spectators, From the band and orchestra, many players joined in small groups known as ensembles, Among these were the string quartet, cornet trio, trombone trio, flute trio, and the pep band, These groups were also in much demand for programs. The pep band was the busiest o all, it's members playing a great variety of programs, including all home basketball games and some out of town games, a great number of rural school programs, and the L,C, C,H, S, junior and senior plays, L, C, C, H, S, attended the district music festival at Pittsburg with the following entries being awarded lst division Ratings, Orchestra, Cirl's Glee Club, Girl's Vocal Ensemble, String Quartet, Ruth Ann Harrison, Violin, Evelyn Pilkington, Cello, Band, Cornet Trio, Boy's Vocal Ensemble, Trombone Trio, Mary Alice Jordan, Baritone, June Owens, Saxophone, Jean Key, Saxophone, Larry Cfebhardt, Cornet, Betty Greer, Girls vocal solo, and Carol Thompson, piano, mln Advanced mathematic s . Those parts are piano, voice, band, and orchestra, The piano department is comparable to that of a college, A full time piano teacher is employed and this year it has been necessary to have an assistant, Ninety piano lessons are given each week, The facilities include fourteen private practice rooms and a main studio, where the lessons are given, Two formal piano recitals have been given during the year and the students perform for many outside activities. Several of them have been in demand as accompanists, In the vocal department, we find such or- ganizations as the Mixed Chorus, C1irl's Glee Club, Boy's Clee Club, small ensembles and many soloists, The Mixed Chorus has been involved in many major productions, including the Christmas program, the fall varieties pro- gram, a spring concert and at Baccalaureate and commencement exercises. The mixed chorus meets twice weekly, alternating with the boy's glee club and girl's glee club who meet separately on the other three days. The mixed chorus has had a total of ninety voices, The irl's glee club has been an outstanding one and geatured in many spots in the programs mentioned above. The boy's glee club has pre- sented several programs in rural schools, assemblies, and other programs, The biggest event of the year, was the program presented to the eighth grade graduates, Not to be omitted are the many vocal soloists whose service to programs in and outside the school have been of great help in entertaining, Most of the soloists have a so been the backbone of the girl's and boy's vocal ensembles, also of great value in the many varied programs presented, fcontinuedl Sl P ,- rv ..
