SCIENCE and R D10 DEPARTME T , , '1 gsm J' 21636 ' Science plays an important part in our every- day lives and its importance is increasing as time goes on. Science is the knowledge of Nature's mysteries. It is the establishing of Nature's laws and using those laws for the benefit of mankind. The present mode ot life demands a knowledge of science in its various fields, and increasingly, it is vitally linked with our everyday lives, mak- ing for a more enioyable and profitable existence. The various science classes are held in the new building where spacious, well lighted quarters are provided. The equipment is second to none. There are two large rooms for laboratory and class work, and in addition there are radio test rooms. A fume hood is designed so as to take care of the general ventilation of the entire laboratory. This is a Physics class under the instruction of Mr Haury. Physics is the study of the sciences of Me chanics, heat, electricity, light, and sound. ,..., ..., N, , .---u tml ' 5 ., - :' 'Q ' ' 'N W 11 1.1.1 t .. More than a million kinds of plants and animals inhabit our earth today and another million kinds are known to have lived in the past and to have perished. Biology compre- hends all that is known about the whole two mil- lion known kinds of living things. Biology is more than the accumulated know- ledge of individual kinds of plants and animals. From the known facts about particular kinds of plants and animals, biologists have been able to discover certain proved principles that apply to all living things. - .V i uni? - 'R if I it 'X ix GENE LOCKARD Biology 2 , 4 ..- il pw: ' Q .. CLOTHING Mildred Bowles, clothing instructor There are i46 girls enrolled in homemaking this year. During a nine week period, each girl completes one or more garments. The girls then style their garments in a style show. ln this department, clothing selection, buying and construction of garments are of great importance. The girls also study grooming, manners, styles, and interior deco- rating. Last year the iunior girls studied furniture styles, then went to Joplin where they visited leading furniture stores. While there they were instructed in interior deco- rating by interior decorators from the stores. . 4' s 0 ef U--L . 1 , : , 1 si T- .Q .lv I .
