Putting together a cutout emblem of the FFA is a fine way to present its history and purposes. With this superb record, the squad brought the first SEK football crown to Parsons in I3 years. The Vikings, under the fine coaching of Head Coach jim Irick and his two capable assistants Max Schiefel- husch and Benny Campbell, displayed a l11OSt versatile offense and a stubborn and hard-hitting defense. Only Fort Scott was able to score more than one touchdown against the Viking's first defensive unit. Offensively the Viking squad showed it could gain yardage from any position on the field and with any attack. Wfheat, McKinZie, and Raney swept around opposing ends Carl Willianis and Wheat crashed through opponents' lines. McKinzie and Clancy hurled yardage-eating passes and found McKnight, Lakes, W'heat, or Wfilliams in the receiving slot. Throuuhout the season the Vikings showed a brand of football spirit and playing ability that made us all proud. A great deal of credit for their showing goes to Coach -Tim Irick. In addition, a second look at the record shows the 1955 Cardinals had a great deal of power and were able to field a defi- nite scoring threat. Last season the Cardinals were able to hit pay dirt only four times. These four touchdowns cannot com- pare with the 1955 Cardinal game average of 15.5 points per game. Most Cardinal supporters agreed that two 220 pound tackles could have put Coach Onion's squad on the other side of the scoring ledger. The 1955 Cardinal tackles did outstanding jobs, but size was definitely needed. Throughout the season the Cardinal squad battled to bring victory to PJC. Halfbacks Don Gasper and Bob Campbell gave the team a hard-to-stop offense. Quart- erbacks Roy Moore and Al Yharra captained the team Parsons I3 - Alumni I3 ALUMNI 13 ARKANSAS CITY 59 EL DORADO -16 INDEPENDENCE 41 IIUTCHINSON 19 PORT SCOTT 32 PRATT 6 COFPFYYILLIY -I3 DODGE CITY 52 GARDEN CITY ii brilliantly, giving Cardinal opponents no opportunity to relax. Charlie Moore will certainly be remembered here as one of the most outstanding pass receivers ever to play on a Redbird squad. A signal victory for the squad came when they halted the Alumni victory record in the season opener. In addition, the 1955 squad snapped an 18 game losing streak that had been plaguing the Cardinals for three seasons. This victory, over Pratt, came, appropriately enough, at the 1955 Ialomecoming. The 1955 Co-Captains elected at the close of the seasons were sophomores Bob Campbell and .Dwayne Daniels. Coach Onion and Assistant Coach Gene Schickel are justifiably optimistic about Cardinal chances next year. Both men handled their coaching jobs excellently and with distinction. Under the direction of Coach Max Sehiefelbuscli, the B squad enjoyed one of its most successful seasons. ln addition to winning its own games, the 15 squad provided Viking mentor Harold johnson with excellent reserve power.
