3rd District Crown The volleyball team, under the leadership of Coach Sandy Hinton, captured their third straight District Crown this year. Led by All-District Pat Matthews and Debra Harris, the Pirates swept to another successful season of play. They advanced to the regional play- offs in Houston where they received a second place. Pat Matthews was nominated for All-State player. A hearty congratulations is due to those girls for their hard work for keeping La Vega's only all-girl sport top- rated. The B-TEAM pictured above consisted of Coach Sandy Hinton, Doylene Walker, Cindy Lovelace, Karen Kuehl, Becky Collins, Sherry Maxwell, Carla Hope, Sharon Kennedy, lanis Wollard, and Debbie Mitchell. 122

Track Team Like other La Vega sports, there were few participants, but those who competed did an outstanding job. Each member of the track team managed to acquire his share of awards. Those receiving medals were Beasley Reece with 5 medals and 3 trophies, Glen Machan with 2 medals and 2 trophies, Dale Dug- gan with 1 medal, and Henry Se- well who placed in two track meets. There was one member, Glen Mac- han, who went to regional competition. The head coach jimmy Stubblefield led the LV tracksters into the five meets with the speed and endurance of a Pirate. Freshman tracksters Qbelowj coached by Tommy Anderson made a fine showing in com- petition. They will be a source of future LV track teams. 124
