The marines recently elected the sweethearts for their marching band. They were none other than Margaret Scott and Nadine Clifton. Of course. you probably knew that the marine has landed and has Mary Bess Robertson well in hand. Wilma Dee Back recently received a contract for an act in Ringling Brothers. Patsy Richardson is already working for then as the midget attrac- tion. I understand Wilma Dee was contracted to attend to Irate male customers. Both of my children are in the Highland Park School in Chicago. My daughter and son were telling me about their teachers. Tom is taking Shake- spearean English under Miss Norma Bongard. Miss Lois Byford is teaching Cathy social studies. I took some sewing out to a little lady out in the suburbs who takes in sewing all the time. When I walked in the door I was nearly bowled over by nine or ten young urchins who were playing Indians. After talking to the lady a while. I discovered that she was the former Bessie Chaneyworth and her family of boys now numbering eight. I told you in my last letter about my dear aunt who is now in the Austin Institute. didn't I? We spent our vacation up in Colorado this summer on a Dude Ranch. After the first few days I met the owner's wife and discovered that she was Lannelle Bates before her marriage. We had a nice chat together while she saddled my horse. She seems quite content. I was reading the headlines in the morning paper about the nel ambassa- dor to Mexico. It sounded so interesting that I decided to read it: and I was astonished to read that the personage in the headlines was our former classmate. Betty Jean Kinsel. The President asked Virginia Williams to go along as her literary aide. Those two always were inseparable. Dear. do you know of any hair dye that doesn't leave streaks in your hair? I was walking along the pier last month just as the ship. Eugenie. pulled out of dock. I got into conversation with one of the women. It seems they were shipping a detachment of WACS to Africa in charge of Sergeant Evelena McCormick. Juanita Thorn is drummer for that regiment. It's the same old Corsair gang. Monty Montgomery was on that Africa-bound ship also. He's on his third expedition down there at that. When I went up to New York last year. I got a ticket to the former Dr. I.Q. program. It has a new quizmaster: none other than Dr. B.B. Garrett. he's quite famous on that network by the way. The children were telling me all about the tightrope walker in the cir- cus they went to last week. I do believe it's the same Gene Hungerford who always loved to run and walk so much. They also saw Riely Allen, the famous lion-tamer-

209 Chestnut Heights Chicago. Illinois Annette Carson 1191 Igloo Drive Lasker City. Ontario. Canada My dear Annette. How are you these fine days? It's been a terribly long time since I saw you. You moved away to Alaska just after school was out in '50. That's been quite some time ago. so I'll let you in on some news about old class- mates. You know how quiet Junaita Andrews always was. don't you? Well. she is now teaching modern dance. of all things, at Texas University. She and Sarah How got a position at the same college but Sarah is in the Math Depart ment. I found out some news the other day that really surprised me. Ada Sydow, Claudia McCall. and Alma Denny were always such pals. you know. Well they're all working for rival papers in New York now, and fighting like everything. The other day as I was driving through Glendale, I noticed a sign over U substantial mansion, which read 'Comfortable Home for Widowers and Bache- lors'-Proprietor. Glenda Cantrell. I was really surprised because Glenda was always so shy. Gerald Petty is an inhabitant of that home and quite a favorite. Helen Harris. Ruby Io Heine. and Arlene Bacak have literally taken over the physical education department at Baylor University. They are doing a fine job. so everyone says. I applied for a transcript from the Law Department of Yale not long ago. Was I surprised to see the signature of the Professor of Law - Dan Andrele. Bobby Joe Bailey. and Edwin Dickerson have joined forces to speed the Mexia Black Cats on to a great many victories. They have been defeated quite a few times by dear old La Vega. I was glancing through a 'Glamor' magazine yesterday and I saw an ad- vertisement run by the laughing Gas Company and signed by Bledsoe and King Incorporated. Upon inquiring further. I discovered that it was the same Rosemary and Ruth Marie who were our Senior Classmates. Isn't it strange how you find traces of your old friends? Did you hear the game between Army and Navy last week when Army won 103 to 0? I attended the game and when perusing the program. I found the names of three of our former football stars: W.H. Purvis. Lamoin Cox. and Finis Berry. They completely stole the show I'm proud to say, each making about four or five touchdowns.
