FRESHMAN FOOTB LL AWARDS John did a magnificent job for the team this year both of- fensively and defensively, playing center and middle guard. He never quit and, even when injured, would continue playing and encouraging his teammates to get tough. MOST VALUABLE BACK Rick Chambers Although Arnold is quiet off the field, something happens when he begins barking out signals, takes the snap, rolls out, and fires the ball down field. He made our offense move and keep moving all the way down for the big six. Arnold showed professional poise under pressure and will be ready for next year. He proved to be the leader on the field offensively. Arnold was also elected co-captain with Jesse Colin. COACHES AWARD Craig Battey MOST VALUABLE LINEMAN MOST INSPIRATIONAL PLAYER John Fonseca It all began when Coach McNeill decided to let Chambers, a defensive halfback, play fullback one day at practice. From that day on La Sierra had its problems solved as far as its ground game was concerned. Chambers proved un- stoppable to every remaining opponent and wound up with a great season. MOST VALUABLE PLAYER Arnold Mendez No one player worked harder this year during the long prac- tice sessions and during the games than Craig Battey. When ever we needed the big play, Craig always came through. Craig was everywhere, offensive left half, defensive line- backer, punter, kick-off, kick-off return, punt return, etc. Craig's speed and extra effort and all around ability were without question a great asset to the fine record this year.
