Included in the English Department are the courses of Drama, Journalism, and Public Speaking. Each of these classes along with English are designed to give students a well-rounded concept of the literary arts. It is the hope of all English teachers to be able to broaden their students minds and interests through a rich and varied program. 53

One day a week, cries of agony resound through the halls of La Sierra. It's composition day in the English classes! However, writing compositions is only or e of the many facets of the English Department. Many other important phases include the teaching of proper grammar and the development of a background in good literature. While in English, students learn to read thoughtfully, listen intelligently, express themselves effectively, and think critically. 52
