three spectacular pass plays, from quarterback Mike Roberts to end Jerry Pagenkopf, which gained a total of 146 yards. The first one came early in the second period when Roberts hit Pagenkopf with a button-hook pass and Pagenkopf scampered 74 yards for a touchdown. Later, in the fourth quarter, the Longhorns gambled on a fourth down and 11 situation on their own 17 yard line, and Pagenkopf took a Roberts pass all the way to the 17 yard stripe before being hauled down. In the second game of the season the Longhorns faced the powerful Falcons of Bishop Armstrong. The Falcons were then rated as the number one team in Superior California. The determined Longhorns narrowly missed upsetting Armstrong in losing 13-6.
