.5--iw-A 4a-uzzvf-:nar--suaa-u an-I CIMDUS l'1CII1 E During the summer and the first few months of the school year, a number of important changes took place on the La Sierra campus. During the summer, College Hall Qformerly the campus gymnasiumj was converted into an outlet for packing nuts and bolts. EYE QEclucational Youth Enterprisesj employs approximately 50 students on a part-time basis. As the year progressed, drastic changes could be observed on the hill behind La Sierra Hall. The old Hilltop House was removed and blasting and grading begun to make way for the new library. In january, the Centrex telephone system went into full operation on cam- pus. There is now no campus operator, but a type of switchboard-center is handled from the main desk of the library. The main advantage to the new system is that callers from off-campus may now dial direct to any number on campus, without having to be connected by the operator.

If . g atv? .t ' 2 A. ' 1 r x IDX f- PYW... La Sierra initiated its first College Bowl games during Winter quarter. The games, held Thursday nights in the Commons, resulted in some tense moments and sometimes amusing incidents. The College Bowl program was set in motion by the ASLLU and was organized by Barbara Scofield. In the final play-offs, a quartet from the Biology department captured its fourth straight win in a game with the English department team. In March, an All-Star team was sent to Union College in Nebraska to compete with teams from nine other Adventist colleges in North America. The team, composed of Don Ashley, John Carothers, Dave Thomsen, and captain Nancy Hoyt, placed third among the ten rival teams. Registration happens even more often now that La Sierra is operating on the quarter system. The pro- cess has been accelerated by the move into La Sierra Hall and HMA. Each academic department is now located in separate classrooms, a factor which eases the crowding that took place when registration was held in College Hall. Stations such as Security and Student Finance are located in HMA. Admission to each of these stations is regulated by members ofthe campus security force. One obvious improvement over College Hall registration is the reduced noise level. Many students take advantage of advance registration, which allows them to complete each step of regis- tration at their own convenience and avoid the last- minute rush. H. ,t wif im- Y
