this is the octoberfcountry the dwelling place of winter twilight the color of evening from a warm mood of languor at the end of autumn we pass into a winter landscape a world half eaten by shadows with darkening days and fading flowers echoing the perfumes of yesteryear these are the aged sketched in dusty smeared charcoal on tattered worn paper their fragments of life like pieces of broken glass
