Born in 1909 in the clamorous city ol' Chi- cago, Codlrev 'liryggve Anderson thrived in an atmosphere which reeked with the issues of pre-YVorld XVar I, a background which was later to inlluence his research interests. During his senior year of college he married his dark-haired sweetheart from San Fran- cisco, and following his graduation from Broadview College he received his M.S. at Northwestern University in 1934. Still a young scholar he took up the heavv responsibilities as instructor in historv and dean of men at Oshawa Missionary College. From Oshawa he was called to head the de- partment of history at Atlantic Union Col' lege, where he later became dean of the college. Credit goes to Janesta Jan- zen tor the snappy stuff in Highlights and Side- lights. Both Barclay Martin, business manager, and Wilbur Douglas, advertising manager, worked hard to make it possible tor this Meteor to be published. They look pleased with the budget so tar, and so are we. In spite of certain eccentricities ol' the editor and staff, the Meteor made its dehut in record time this year. After a seige ol' worrying, nih- hing on apples and wishing it were polishing instead, discarding all thoughts and desires of studying, and groping lor new ideas, the stalt relaxed and watched pictures and copy proolfs return . . . one by one. knowing that their efforts were not in vain. During production ol' the hook many ideas were conceived and discarded, which goes to prove that the way in which it was pub- lished was not too unorthodox. Photographers dashed lrantically hetween classrooms and darkroom. and writers proved themselves hard on typewriters and telephones, while the editors developed more ulcers as they watched deadlines arrive and depart. But the drive hehind all this hard work was the knowledge that 800 lellow students were depending upon them to re- produce the lEl52-53 campus lile. Jeanette Proctor, art editor, was as- sisted by Sally Danneberger, cartoonist, in creating the more unusual aspects ot the Meteor. The pictures have been turned in to the engraversg all the copy has been turned in to the press-that is. all except what I am writing now. As I sit in the Meteor oflice, the usually bust- ling Criterion office adjacent to us is quiet, and my thoughts go back over many memorable experiences of the past year. I think ofthe many hours that students, teachers, and professional men have spent in the production of this book. I think of the sacrifice made by staff members and photographers in order for the 1953 Meteor to be a reality. It is impossible to name everyone who has helped, but in addition to those already mentioned on the staff roster, special thanks is given to: PHOTOGRAPHERS Paul Bradshaw. pages n, us. 20, 2l, 25. 32, 49. so. 52, 53, 55.64, sa, 76, as, ae, noi, 107, na, at 122.
