This sfep was nof one of immafure laclc of deliberafiong if was nof one for which L.S.C. did nof find ifself prepared when, on a day in fhe spring of lasf year, fhe General Con- ference proffered ifs approval of fhe con- femplafed sfep. Rafher if was a move foward which every phase of ifs complicafed fwenfy- 'rwo-year developmenf had been direcfed by fhe aggressiveness of fhe school's pioneers and developers, men of greaf faifh and prayer who had submiffed fheir every plan fo fhe guiding hand of an all-discerning Providence. Hole Memorial Au diiorium Cafeleria A healfhy dissafisfacfion has always been a dominanf characferisfic of fhe men of La Sierra. Tradifionalism has never exisfed for ifs own salce. As a maffer of facf, if was 'l'he looking foward fhe proverbial greener pas- 'rures which fwenfy-'rhree years ago impelled fhe founding of fhe insfifufion. Soufhern Cali- fornia needed a new boarding academy, free fo expand, modern in consfrucfion, farfher from cify life and fhe maddening fhrongs. ln a dusfy acreage of wafermelon pafch on Rancho La Sierra, esfafe of fhe millionaire W. Buf fhe inherenf spirif of developmenf which somehow became a parf of La Sierra would nof, for long, allow relaxafion in fhe academy sfafus. W. W. Ruble, as educafional secrefary of fhe Pacific Union Conference, had for several years pushed fhe junior college idea, which in I927 was made a realify. Professor Ruble assumed fhe presidency, and fhe insfifufion found ifself scrambling resolufely fhrough ifs - 13,5 . Q. Angwin Hall limifafions in equipmenf and indebfedness. The firsf college enrollmenf included only forfy-seven. Then under H. M. Johnson, presi denf from I928 fo l93O, came freedom from bonded indebfedncss, and indusfrial develop- menf. The presidency of E. E. Cossenfine from l93O fo I942 was a nolable period of expansion. Now fhe College began fo blossom forfh. Perhaps fhe mosf significanf building fo be erecfed was San Fernando l'lall, flue science building, for fhe lack of science facilifies had been fhe chief sfumbling bloclc in fhe way of accredifafion. ln I933 fhe pre-nursing and pre-denfal courses were added, and fhe Norfhwesf Associafion and fhe General Con- ference Board of Regenfs accepfed fhe insfi- fufion as a full-blown iunior college. IN THE LA SIERRA COLLEGE PREPARATORY SCHOOL THERE IS AN ENROLLMENT OF APPROXIMATELY 250 STUDENTS. MANY LIVES ARE MOLDED IN THIS UNIT OF LA SIERRA: IT IS HERE THAT DECISIONS ARE MADE, AND PREPARA- TIONS FOR COLLEGE COURSES ARE COMPLETED. PLANS ARE BEING FORMED BY THE YOUTH OF THIS AGE WHICH WILL DETERMINE THEIR LIFE CAREERS. FEW WHO ENTER OUR DOORS HAVE YET A CLEAR VISION OF THEIR FUTURE RESPONSIBILITIES. DURING THE FOUR YEARS EACH STUDENT REMAINS, IT IS OUR PURPOSE TO INTRODUCE THE MASTER, TO PROMOTE A PROGRAM OF WORK, AND TO ENCOURAGE THE STUDENT IN HIS PURSUIT OF KNOWLEDGE THAT THE SPIRITUAL, THE PHYSICAL, AND THE MENTAL DEVEL- OPMENT WILL MAKE A COMPLETE AND PERFECT PATTERN. MAY ALL WHO LEAVE OUR ACADEMY DO SO WITH THE COM- PLETE SELF-MASTERY AND IMPLICIT FAITH AND DEVOTION THAT ASSURE SUCCESS. He Hath Served With Me PHILIPPIANS 2'22 N. L.
