FJepresenting the senior class has included such unpleasantries as getting hit with a pie in the face and being thrown in the pool both liefore audiences. Re cnge has been sweet and has come in the form of lemon meringue hits, underclassmen in the pool and in trash cans and in one case making one kneel and pray to the block. Tom Whiteside Thomas Reina Ode to the Class of ' 79 11 iV-T Now is the time to move on To know we are needed someivhere else. To help or be helped. To move on to a higher plateau To reminisce, to dream. We face a ivholeneiv life ahead of us. Which we may be a little shy to face. Thinking deeply. We remember the smiles, and the cheers. The laughter and the love. And ask why we must leave? Then ive remember the sadness. And the tears which we all kneiv, A smile accompanies those tears. Several years ago. We were afraid to come here. Leery of the strangers ive had to face. But now. All of these strangers have become friends. Friends tveve grown to love. It s going to hurt leaving here. But we know we must. n y X i L .SirTT K. And well they did, the squad ' s long hours of practicing finally paid off as the Lancers tied for third place in the Whitmont League. This was the best record for Varsity runners in the past three seasons. The Cross Country runner requires a great deal of stamina and endurance, and runners like Jeff Hamil- ton, Jim McBride, Bill Welch, and Jim Millspaugh proved it as the Varsity Cross Country team gave their opposition a run for their money. Varsity Basketball By won-loss standards it was not a good season, but by any other standards this year ' s La Serna Varsity Basketball team members were winners, commented Gwch Virgil j Robertson. They demonstrated outstanding sportsman-, ship, great pride, determination, hustle, coachability, and above all outstanding attitude. Everyone contributed daily ' in practice and during games without question. At the time of this printing the team had just won two in a row, one of which was an upset victory over first place Sierra and were hopeful of winning the last two league games. With the win over Sierra, the Lancers turned the comer and will definitely be remembered as the team that helped turn La Serna Basketball into winners.
