Phil Valett, joe Miklavcic, Gene Beck, and Bill Miller often demon- strated the start to the inexperi- enced swimmers. This year Valett, Miklavcic, and Dean Strell swam in the state meet. of-,Q .gpafadkerd 0,9 C-our ind The swimming team had its most successful season in four years. Out of a twelve meet schedule L-P won four, beating Streator and DeKalb twice and losing to Bloomington by only seven points. The splashers contend with many of the top state teams such as Peoria, E. and W. Rockfords, Bloomington, and New Trier. Since there were only two seniors on the squad, the future swimming seasons look most promising. The future of the swimming team lies in the under-classmen. Coach Herb Valett explains the use of the kickboard to the freshmen: Ginn, Mgr., Hadley, McBrayne, Faletti, and Vegerson. In row two are Sabatta, Konzac, Tomaseski, Essl, Brady, and Rossman. In row one are Monari, Turczyn, Bradner, and Anderson. A daily workout with the barbells and jumping ropes help establish co-ordination which is so neces- sary in swimming.
