Stogner MMC D, Rhodes MMCS C, Hazelgrove M Division manned and ready for sea detail , and in all cases we are always manned and ready in any situation that confronts the LA SALLE, It is the hard and tedious task of M Division to keep the LA SALLE's main ' ' ' engines in tip top shape. We control a great deal of the ship's vital functions such as the fresh water supply that is consumed daily from our two evaporators, maintain and operate the LA SALLE's turbo-generators, control the flow of steam t th ' - o e main en gines from orders from the Bridge, and supplyneeded steam t th ' o e laundry, and other parts of the ship. Most of our re- pair work pertains to the pumps, and related machi ' nery in our spaces which are vital to the ship's engines. During the cruise, LA SALLE consumed 1 980 393 gallons of boiler feedwater and 5,566,345 gallons of fresh wat er. M Division produced it. Our hours are long and hard and M Division like to play hard also. We work together as a team, since most of our repair work and engineering functions require team work to get a job done right. The main engines on the LA SALLE are our babies, and it takes a high caliber of men to See that they are running, and to operate the complex machinery in our engine rooms. M Division makes up just one part of the Engineering Dept- aboard the LA SALLE, but we like to feel that it is M Divi- sion that makes the LA SALLE always dependable and rough 'n ready,

AVN' as ' Sf N f P Carpenter's Shop - DCFN Miller and DC2 Dolan R Division is broken up into two different shops working together as a team to act as the main repair group aboard the LA SALLE, The DC shop maintains the firefighting gear, does all the carpenter work and maintains various piping and ballasting systems. The shipfitter shop is responsible for the welding and brazing and other various jobs that in- volve metal, pipes, and plumbing. Together, these shops make up the main firefighting force, ballast team, and ship- board damage control training force. LA SALLE's 69 Med deployment started out by giving R Division its usual preparational headaches. Being the main repair division, they had to be fully prepared and in an ex- cellent state of readiness, a goal that was completed wh en the infamous cry of shift colors was passed. The ship- f'tt h 1 er s op was replenished with FA Petit, complemented by .DC2 Dolan and DC3 Cushing joining the forces of the DC shop. The trip over proved to be a rocking and rolling affair keep- ing both shops busy and in great demand for the many re- pair Jobs caused by the rough seas. A runawa U b Y oat in the well deck gave the DC men a chance to show off their shoring capabilities followed by the excellent Work Of the shipfitters in repairing the damaged Mike boats that re- suited in the event. once the first liberty port 0fT0U10Q' France was reached, R Division W-QS SIVGH 9' Chance O stop and catch their breaths, yet kept busy under the cont-5 sistent and demanding leadership of WO-1 D1nk1nS who had the daily responsibility of giving DC1 Burgund the Sa tale of another damaged boat. The many hour? Spent re' pairing and sprucing up the ship's boats DI'0V1dedfHn eff' cellent opportunity to have each and every man qllallfled In the tedious job of boat repair and fiberglasslrlg- Luckily, very few other incidents arose to cause much L1-a?1E within the division for the duration of the cruise excep ti the few traditional mishaps that occur inthe liberty POI' - Things most remembered by R Division will be the UI?-T3 hours spent on ballast detail, the long awaited arrivaand Chief Tobias, DC2 Brown shipping for six more years: - the sadly unexpected locker inspections. The consistent upd keep of the ship and its repairs by R DlV1S1OH proved worthwhile by making the Med 69 cruise an easy Can enjoyable?J one.
