MM3 Geipel at the Controls for No. 1 M DIVISIO MMCS B. Stogner MMC D, Rhodes MMCS C, Hazelgrove M Division manned and ready for sea detail , and in all cases we are always manned and ready in any situation that confronts the LA SALLE, It is the hard and tedious task of M Division to keep the LA SALLE's main ' ' ' engines in tip top shape. We control a great deal of the ship's vital functions such as the fresh water supply that is consumed daily from our two evaporators, maintain and operate the LA SALLE's turbo-generators, control the flow of steam t th ' - o e main en gines from orders from the Bridge, and supplyneeded steam t th ' o e laundry, and other parts of the ship. Most of our re- pair work pertains to the pumps, and related machi ' nery in our spaces which are vital to the ship's engines. During the cruise, LA SALLE consumed 1 980 393 gallons of boiler feedwater and 5,566,345 gallons of fresh wat er. M Division produced it. Our hours are long and hard and M Division like to play hard also. We work together as a team, since most of our repair work and engineering functions require team work to get a job done right. The main engines on the LA SALLE are our babies, and it takes a high caliber of men to See that they are running, and to operate the complex machinery in our engine rooms. M Division makes up just one part of the Engineering Dept- aboard the LA SALLE, but we like to feel that it is M Divi- sion that makes the LA SALLE always dependable and rough 'n ready,

Responsibilityis another major fac- tor in the operation of an efficient division. This too is a part of E Division. The EM's are responsible, not only for the correct and proper operation of all electrical equipment, but also for keep- ing all gear SAFE to operate.Needless to say, LA SALLE Elec- tricians are on top of their responsibilities. Steering, communication, anchor handling gear, lighting, ventila- tion, and portable tools, which we all use, are constant companions for the electrician. A constant supply of electrical power, dis- tributed throughout the ship from the four Ship Service Turbo- generators and switchboards, is another service to the ship, During an emergency situation, electricians will be found supply- ing emergency electrical power and manning all repair parties. Casualty power is also rigged and connected by the repair party Sparky , Many extra hours are spent working while underway, and when finally in port work goes well beyond liberty call. Med lights are a must and are handled efficiently. time after time to show that this is a United States vessel, on a mission of good will, Communications, shipboard and outside, and gyro compasses are the responsibility of the I, C, Electricians. The good sounds over the ship's entertainment speakers, and your daily movie ration, are brought to you by the I, C, men with loving care. Small boats and fork lifttrucks are alsoa major responsibility for E Division. Our Electricians in the Battery shop usually have their hands full of Bos'n Mates, I mean, trouble calls, The extra boats we have on board, during our Med deployment. meant extra duty and many extra hours for the battery gang. EM's had their share of trouble calls and emergency jobs throughout Med 3-69, but they have always worked as a team with dedication. This factor alone helped them get the job finished Fight. Any Well dones given to E Division were well deserved, .both for the quality and quantity of work accomplished. It was a long, tiring cruise, but finally it was LA SALLE's turn at Pier W7 NOB, and liberty calls resounded, but LA SALLE's Elec- tricians were, as usual, working late rigging shore power. The best Dart Of any cruise for E Division is when the 1 MC pipes UP, THERE WILL BE A TEMPORARY LOSS OF ELECTRICAL POW- ER, WHILE SHIFTING FROM SHIP'S POWER TO SHORE POWER. That sounds the end of a cruise and the beginning of liberty! E DIVI IO EMC G, L, Boling lCl Mitchell, ENS Klemm review electrical problems
