A DIVISION A Division distinguished itself throughout MED 3-69 in helping to maintain LA SALLE as a fight- ing ship. Through many cold and rainy nights the men of A gang worked around the clock to keep our assault craft in operation. We experienced' many crises during the cruise, among the most memorable being the time when the stern gate was stuck in the down position iblunder to the Supply Dept. for not having any hydraulic oil on ENC E. K. Burkett boardl, and the fateful GQ casualty drill when the ship was stuck with 350 right rudder on, steaming in tight circles around the island of Malta. A Division on LA SALLE is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all shipboard aux- iliary machinery. Our machinery varies from the anchor windlass to after steering in location and from the B St A Crane to the galley meat slicers in kind. A Division also operates the machine shop where we manufacture everything from stern gate dogs for the deck apes to ma- chine gun parts for the grunts . Our' Motto: lf we can't fix it, it ain't broken. ENS S, D, Updike A Division Officer

The main propulsion steam is provided by B Di- vision to keep the ship underway, and for the generators that provide our lights. Auxiliary steam gives us heat, hot food and shower service. We seldom get any recognition as we work where no one else but a snipe would dare be seen. Our hours are sometimes long and the work always hardg but this is just another job and we all know it has to be done. B Division also handles NSFO which runs hand in hand with our providing steam. No oil, no fire, and consequently, no steam, and without B Division the ship would be at a loss for many of life's conveniences. We have two boilers to tend and fire sides aren't a bed of roses, as any snipe can tell you. We do our Work and keep the LA SALLE on the go.
