Always ready, We rallied at every hour to meet every commitment, eating on station, sacrificing s le ep, enduring the c old, Wind, and rain. We occasionally ran a three ring circus simultaneously, with Garris dropping the anchor, Hussey low- ering boats with the crane, and Leytrick rigging the ,accommodation ladder. Our deck seamen stood the long, dreary, and thankless lookout watches, Whaleboat watcheshhelm, lee helm, messenger and Boatswain Mate Watches. The cruise engraved a variety of mem- ories on the minds of each of us. Not one will ever forget the whaleboat incident, the sad departure of our Division Officer and the Memorial Service. Another memory is the hard driving rain on D-Day morning at Lovo Santo.
