Their guide was SFP3 Torrid Thompson who also led YN3 Wicked White, EN3 Jolly Johnson and EN3 Lantern Lewis in one of the strangest amphibious assaults ever recorded. The weapons section was led by GMG2 Caliber Camp with SN Chuckles Coleman, SN Rosey Rhodes and TN Lax Lawson carrying the load. The other infamous but lovable characters in the exercise were: SA Corney Connell DCFA Tuff Turney SN Chiller Clark SN Horrible Holt SN R99-dy Reid AN Mountains Mackaluso AN Willow Watkins RDSA Weasel Wagner SA Slippery Sullivan SN Lucky Le Baron TN Loud Ladera HM3 Windy Westbrook Due to continual bad weather, the major assault exercise and Navy landing party functions were postponed, to the deep chagrin of all. A holiday was declared and beer was issued to each man to console him in this time of sorrow. Following a stormy night, the Super Squids Ctheir own name for themselvesj were the first up and packed in true Navy tradition. Of course, the Marines broke their tent for them, but you can't expect a squid to do land lovers work. Following a more direct route to the beach, they slipped and slid over rocky slopes toward home and ar- rived back only 36 hours after departing. Our thanks especially goes to SGT Baker, G Company who pushed, prodded, and taught the squids how to survive on one quart of beer a day while fighting the rain and mud of Sardinia. ENS. W. V. ARNETH Through the mud and rain they came, all 46 of them Cin- cluding the RUSHMORE personnelb marching like waddling ducks over hill and dale. Nothing could stop them Cbut the two mile walk nearly killed themj, Upon reaching the Marine Administrative Camp the LA SALLE and RUSH- MORE landing party became a legend, A strange cross between Hogan's Heroes and McHale's Navy, the Argonian Misfits Cas they came to be knownj were real men. They trooped straight through Golf Co. Headquarters and were greeted with the usual friendly Marine jeers of Good Morning and Welcome! But never feeling jolted, they soon acquired the largest and muddiest tent in the camp, however, shrewd Navy Men that they are, theyalso req- uisitioned a tarpaulin for the muddy deck and the Tent Hilton was established.
